Thank you for reading my review for the Blu-Ray release of “Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen”.
“Sam, fate rarely calls upon us at a moment of our choosing.”
Short Version: “Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen” is like an expensive hooker. It has no class, no quality, it doesn’t care about you and only exists to take your money. But, its nice to look at.
Plot Synopsis: This film has a plot?!
What I liked: The action in this film is fun, as with all of Bay’s films. Seriously, the scene in which Sideswipe kills Sideways has to be one of my most favorite scenes in the film. The special effects are just fucking amazing. Watching Devastator form was great. I’ll admit there were some funny scenes in the film. The designs of the new transformers had rad, like Ravage, Devastator, Megatron, The Fallen, Sideswipe. Optimus is one bad mother-fucker in this film, he takes on THREE decepticons at once.
What I disliked: This film has no plot at all. The “plot” is filled with holes that gives “Terminator: Salvation” a run for its money. For example, only a prime can kill a prime, right? Then tell me, how did Optimus die? And if Megatron was brought back to life by using a shard of the AllSpark, then why didn’t they just use that shard Mikela had to bring back Optimus? And if the Autobots went with Prime, then where the fuck were they when Optimus fought Starscream, Megatron, and Grindor? Many of the characters in this film were just wasted. The Fallen, Devastator, Arcee, Scorponok, and others were wasted. Hell, Jolt was only in two scenes, and we didn’t even get to see him fight. Megan Fox had no purpose in this film other than for oversexed teens to stare at. The humor was even worse than the first film, and was even dumber than “Meet The Spartans”. For some unknown reason Bay seems to have EVERYTHING as a joke. Do I really need to comment on The Twins or Devastator’s testicles? Starscream was just a fucking pussy in this film. Some of the dialogue is good in this film, but its usually ruined by another “joke” or something that contradicts it.
Audio/Video: The film comes with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio as well a 5.1 French and Spanish track. The film is presented in its original widescreen ratio and 1080p High Definition. The audio sounds great. It only sucks that my speaker system fucked up before I got this and wasn’t able to listen to it on their, but it still sounded great. Do I really need to tell you how great this film looks?
The Human Factor: Exacting Revenge of The Fallen– This feature comes with several chapters about the making of the film. These chapters go into detail about Developement and design, Production on locations including the US, The Military, and Middle East. It also icludes editing, Visual Effects, and Post Production.
A Day With Bay: Tokyo– Is a feature that shows you the days leading up to the premiere in Tokyo, and while he was STILL finishing the film.
25 Years of Transformers: Is a cool feature that goes into the legacy of Transformers and its popularity.
Nest: Transformers Data Hub– This is probably my favorite of the features. I gives you the choice of choosing Autobot or Decepticon, and gives info and history on some of the Transformers featured in the film.
The AllSpark Experiment: Is a Blu-Ray EXCLUSIVE that lets you choose a vehicle, and create your own Transformer. This feature is pretty fun, but does get a little boring after a while.
Deconstructing Visual Mayhem: Lets you choose between many scenes and gives you background on the scene. It also gives you a dual look at the finished scene and the unfinished.
Big Effing Movie: This feature just shows the scale of how big the movie is.
The Matrix of Marketing: This feature provides you with the theatrical trailers, TV Spots, and some still galleries.
Other features include deleted/alternate scenes(mostly involving Sam’s parents), Commentary by Michael Bay, Linkin Park’s music video to “New Divide”, which should be sued for false advertising, because it makes the movie seem cooler than it acutally is. And to finish things off you get a slip case with battle damage Optimus on it, and when you remove you get a close up shot of Megatron.
I give the film a 2.5 out of 5.
I give the Blu-Ray a 5 out of 5.
Overall: Odds are you have probably already bought this film if you were going to. Me, I bought this film JUST for the special effects and action, and because I LOVE giant freaking robots kicking the crap out of each other. If you don’t like the film, then you should at least rent it for the special features.
