“No. You won’t die. Because I’ll protect you.”
Short Version: This film is a great retelling of the first few episodes, that will please fans and possibley new fans.
Plot Synopsis: After Second Impact destroys the most of civilization, giant monster know as Angels begin to appear. To combat these creatures the government creates humanoid machines called Evas, and Shinji Ikari(Son of the head of NERV) is called in to pilot the most powerful of the Evas, Unit 01.
What I liked: The animation in this film looks just amazing, especially the Evas. And the scenes in which Tokyo-3 moves looked great. There was also that AMAZING scene in which Ramiel morphs to shoot its beam. The first battle with the Angel(Sachiel if I’m not mistaken) was so much fun to watch. And the scene where Unit 01 walks into the flames afteerwards was chilling. As well as the scene in which they use an N2 mine on the Angel. The new design for the SEELE monoliths were pretty cool. The relation between Shinji and his father is still the same as the anime. And the characters were the same as the anime. Seeing Shinji go through all that drama was interesting and just reminded me why I love this series in the first place. And me I could relate to a some of the things that Shinji was going through. Of course, not any of the scenes involving the Eva or the Angels, but most of the drama he went through in his life I could relate to. And the scene in which the other characters(Mostly Misato and Ritsuko) were talking about his “Hedgehog’s dilema” were great. And the scenes leading up to an Angel battle were just great. Ramiel was just EPIC, and the battle with the Angel sent chills done my spine.
What I disliked: I really can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this movie.
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene would have to be when Shinji went all crazy on Shamshel.
Audio/Video: The film comes with an English 5.1 and Japanese 5.1 Surround. The video is presented in widescreen. The video quality is great and the audio is top notch.
The only special features presented are trailers for other anime titles.
I give the film a 5 out of 5
I give the DVD a 1 out of 5
Overall: The film was just EPIC, and was a lot of fun to watch. Its a real shame that there were next to no special features, especially considering how popular Evangelion is.
