A third Ghostbusters film isn’t really a necessity for me. I loved the two films, but I always felt that there shouldn’t be anymore. And, there has been many rumors regarding a third film over the past few years. It did seem as if would never happen.
However, Harol Ramis, who played Egon Spangler, told Heeb that the film will begin shooting next summer and will be released in 2011.
Thanks to comicbookmovies:
“Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future … GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011 …”
I watched both films a couple of weeks ago and they are still really fun. I only hope that this third film has a good story to it, because while I enjoyed the second film it did pretty much just rely on special effects.
No word on who’s doing to direct the film, but hopefully Reitman returns. If not if would probably either be Ramis who directs(hope not), but after “Year One” tanked that’s not likely.
Are you excited about Ghostbusters 3?
