Every since Sony announced that they would completely reboot the Spider-Man franchise earlier this week, speculation over who would direct has been the most talked about subject. Names such as James Cameron, Michael Bay, Wes Anderson, and even David Fincher have been dropped for consideration.
Now, it seems that Sony MAY have picked the director from “500 Days of Summer”, Marc Webb, to helm the reboot.
Thanks to Deadline Hollywood:
“But Mike Fleming‘s sources tell him Webb met about the Spidey reboot with the pic’s producers and executives looking to get the picture into production later this year for a Summer 2012 release. Why will the pic take so long? Because it’s likely to be shot in 3-D, and Sony Pictures plans to make an announcement about that “at the appropriate time”.”
I really don’t know about this choice. I haven’t seen “500 Days of Summer”, but I have heard good things. After checking IMDB(I use that now, lol), I have seen that he hasn’t directed anything that would get me excited about this decision.
Raimi didn’t have any superhero movie experience either, but it was his passion for the character that made the first two films work. If Webb can bring that same passion, then I’ll be game. Until then I’ll remain skeptical about this choice. I also hope that Sony didn’t choose Webb because he will kiss their ass, unlike Raimi.
And, hopefully we hear some casting news sooner or later on the film. Although, my overall feeling is that this shouldn’t even be happening.
At least this would be better than having Michael Bay direct the film, despite him being one of my favorite directors.
Do you think Webb is a good choice to direct the film?
