Yesterday, Quinto announced that he wanted to take a two year break from Star Trek, and that meant to movies, no conventions, nothing. And with that announcement fans(myself included) were pretty shocked and upset to hear this. There was also panic as to what this meant for the sequel to JJ Abrams Star Trek.
Quinto has since dismissed these rumors, and now gives us clarification on his blog.
Thanks to The Daily Express:
“Obviously I will be a part of any upcoming films… reprising my role as Spock. What I meant was that in the meantime I won’t be making any public appearances related to the franchise – or doing any more auxiliary projects pertaining to the Trek universe (sic). I will be focusing my efforts on other projects and preparing to shoot the next film – which will be released in June of 2012… two years from now. Hence the no Trek for two years remark. Worry not Trekkers. It was a misunderstanding of context.”
He is contracted to be apart of the films, but my main concern was that it may have meant the sequel was going to be bushed back.
I could understand people getting upset over that, Quinto was just amazing as young Spock. And, you can’t just get rid of that character after the first film. Given Quinto’s epic portrayal it would be difficult to replace him as well. I know actors are replaced all the time, but you just got done finding someone who was as great as Nimoy was.
So, like Quinto said, worry not.
Your thoughts?
I just added a post earlier about him leaving Star Trek. WOW, well this is great for Star Trek Fans, but I really thought after I posted my post that he would be done with Star Trek for a while.
