Anyone that reads my articles knows that I’m completely against Hollywood adapting anime/manga titles into live-action films. They are always dumbed down for the general audience to the point where its not even entertaining, but painful.
The writer of Bleach, has said once that he would never create a live-action version of his manga. Of course that doesn’t mean he change his mind because WB is in the process of acquiring the movie rights to the popular manga series.
Thanks to Heat Vision:
“Peter Segal is in negotiations to produce, though not direct, the adaptation with Viz Media, the anime publishing house that releases the books in English in the U.S. Michael Ewing, Segal’s partner at Callahan Filmworks, will also produce.”
Now it doesn’t state that it will be live-action, but I think its safe to assume that’s what they’re planning.
I can tell you now this won’t work. If you’ve seen the anime, then you would realize this to be true. In the anime the soul reapers contain swords that can change shape, and would look absolutely ridiculous in a live-action film.
They would also have to get rid of one of my favorite characters, Kon. I don’t care how useless the character is, he’s hilarious. I do hope they get Asian actors only and not try to Americanize the series, like they’re doing with Akira.
Do you think a live-action Bleach film would work?
