Cast: Woody Harrelson, Kat Dennings, Elias Koteas, Michael Kelly, Sandra Oh, Lisa Ray, Kristin Booth.
Synopsis: “Defendor” is about a socially immature man, Arthur Poppington (Harrelson), who calls himself Defendor when he’s fighting crime with marbles and a trench club. In his attempts to fight crime, he meets a young prostitute(Dennings) who helps him find his arch-enemy Captain Industry.
This movie was getting positive buzz all over the internet. And Kat Dennings is in it, which is more than enough to make me watch a movie. I did watch it as soon as I got it in my hands and yeah I loved it.
The best thing about the movie is, without a doubt, Woody Harrelson(when you leave out Dennings that is =P). He plays, a man who’s reality often crosses with the impossible. A weak one-man show with the crime world? Yeah, Good luck with that! He provides his role, everything. And I loved what the director did with his character. Unlike other “heroes”, it is Defendor himself who gets his ass kicked most of the times.
I loved the fun elements and ‘the moments’ of the film. The comedy and emotions were balanced in a fantastic way. I was laughing my ass off one moment the whole thing gets “sad” the next. And Kat Dennings added awesomeness to her character(as always). She might just be my next Scarlett Johansson ;). I found the parody of other superhero movies to be hilarious. Defendor trying to quote cool stuff like Batman or Supes but ending with the cheesiest and corniest ones adds extra-awesomeness to the movie.
I wont spoil it, but the ending was brutal.
Watch this movie. Buy it, rent it or whatever but make sure you watch it. It’s a well-written film with great direction, great lead actors and an amazing supporting cast(even Lisa Ray’s cameo was great). It has a new feel to it. Unlike a lot of new movies, it is fresh and I’m pretty sure it will pass your time just great.
