Back in August, it was announced that Legendary Pictures was attempting to reboot the Godzilla series, but all we got was “No Comment” from Toho. Now BloodyDisgusting reports that Legendary Pictures have obtained the rights:
“Today it was announced that Legendary officially obtained rights to the iconic monster character from Japan’s Toho Company who will release the remake in Japan, while Warner Bros. is aiming at a 2012 release (with early 3-D rumors circulating). 55 years and 28 movies later…”
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the studio talking about 3-D given its popularity. I was upset with this news when I first heard it, but I’ve liking the idea of seeing another Godzilla movie again. All of us fans know how Emmerich’s Godzilla turned out, but I’m sure Legendary Pictures will stay will please the fans. The best part is that Toho was originally planning to revive the series in 2013, but now get it one year early.
