I haven’t seen the original Lost Boys so I don’t know what that’s about (Vampires obviously). This film is basically about two teens, a brother and sister, who move to Luna Bay after the death of their parents to live with their ridiculous aunt. The boy meets an ex surfer who invites him and his sister to a party. While there, the sister drinks some sort of liquor, but really it’s vampire blood and that supposedly turns you into vampires. But after meeting Edgar Frog, who’s a vampire hunter, tells him that he has a chance to turn his sister back into a human.
The plot itself just sound ridiculous, and it fits a ridiculous movie. After watching this film, and I should have expected this seeing as it was a straight to DVD movie, I felt like I had wasted time I could have used watching some other movie, or do something like make a sandwich or something.
The dialogue in this film is terrible. There was some points where the film felt like a cheesy 80’s film with lines like “Thanks for helping us.””Hey, it’s what I do.” Which is not a bad line when you read it, but watching the movie I felt like these people came from the Justin Timberlake film school.
While I think it’s great how they did the gore effects, it felt like they were trying too hard to make gore scares. Frankly, I was more disgusted then scared, which brings up the next topic: The movie isn’t scary. I wasn’t expecting this to be a great horror classic, but come on, at least try to scare me and make me care for these two characters.
The character of the aunt in this movie should have been cut drastically. She was the most annoying character in this movie. After you hear what she has to say at the end when she finds them sitting on the couch covered in blood, you’ll be rolling your eyes. And I couldn’t help but laughed whenever Edgar Frog started speaking. He was trying to be gritty and bad ass, but in the end he sounded like he was trying to be Batman.
Lost Boys: The Tribe is a waste of an hour and half and you should avoid it with all cost. On a scale of Buy, Rent of Skip, you can probably guessed it, Skip.
