With school out (where I am), I wanted to show some movies I love to watch in the summer over and over again:
Why Do I Watch It: Many people give this movie a lot of crap. Yes I can understand that the dialog is awful at times (but mostly just from Bloom’s character). Yes it can be very cheesy at times. But in the end, when I watch a movie, it’s really about coming out of a film despite it’s flaws and saying “I had a great time with it.” And that’s what happened with Troy. The battles were very epic and entertaining, the story was solid, and besides Bloom, all the actors were pretty damn good. And if you haven’t seen the director’s cut, you should check it out, but after you’ve seen the orginal.
9. The Harry Potter Movies
Why Do I Watch It: I remember when I first saw the trailer for the first film, and seeing it when I was six or seven years old. I fell in love with the series immediately. Now I’ve read all the books and have seen all the movies and am definitely awaiting the final two films, The Deathly Hallows. My favorite to this day is still the Goblet of Fire, though the sixth film is a bit of a runner up.
8. Iron Man
Why Do I Watch It: I remember when this film was coming out, before the trailers I had no interest in this movie. However, once I saw the first trailer, like most of the world, I was sucked in. And when it came out I was not disappointed. The film started out the summer movie 2008 season with a bang with an amazing performance by Robert Downey Jr., incredible visuals, great action, just an awesome story. Too bad the sequel wasn’t anywhere as good as the first film.
Why Do I Watch It: It’s f**king Transformers that’s why! The 2007 summer season was truly a horrible time for movies. We had several disappointments like Spider Man 3 and Shrek the Third. But in a summer of suck, Transformers didn’t suck. It’s mixed when it came to reactions, and for reasons that I don’t necessarily disagree with, but still in terms of a great summer flick, this is one of the funnest times with a movie I’ve ever had.
6. Tropic Thunder
Why Do I Watch It: This is Hollywood parodying Hollywood. A movie that I didn’t expect would be all that great, I was really impressed. I laughed all the way through this movie. Robert Downey Jr. brought his A game to this role like he does with every role, but the one character that was so iconic was Tom Cruise as Les Grossman. And it was enough for them to get him his own movie, which I can’t wait for.
5. The Hangover
Why Do I Watch It: I think you know exactly why I watch it. Oh you don’t? Well let me tell you. This is easily one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. The character of Alan is very iconic (I actually have a shirt with him on it), and despite the slightly stupid ending, I love everything about this movie.
Why Do I Watch It: I can’t believe some of the sh*t people say about the film. F**k ’em. This is easily one of the best war films and best films of all time in general. It teaches you that if you have to fight for something, fight for it. It makes me feel more macho everytime I watch it.
Why Do I Watch It: Cuz I was f**king entertained! (There are a lot of f**ks flying around lately). But seriously I’ve stated many times how much I’ve loved this movie, so I shouldn’t have to say it again…but I’m gonna anyway. This film is driven by Russell Crowe, who makes you love his characters, even his name makes you giddy. Maximus Decimus Meridius, man I wish I had a name like that.
2. The Dark Knight
Why do I watch it: This is the perfect summer movie, especially if you love Baseball. But there’s much more to it than that. The characters are memorable, the film is hilarious, and it has one of the best throw up scenes I’ve ever seen. This is a summer classic. So what about you? What movies would you like to add?
