One of the things I loved about The Incredible Hulk was Ed Norton’s performance in the film. I felt he portrayed Bruce Banner perfectly and even though I think Eric Bana did a good job in Ang Lee’s version, Norton was a way better in terms of looking like Bruce Banner.
Now Ed Norton has stated in the past that he isn’t sure if he wants to return for a sequel to The Incredible Hulk, but that doesn’t take away that maybe he could consider being part of the Avengers. Well, according to Cinematical, this isn’t the case.
Marvel officially announced today that Norton will not be reprising his role for the Avengers. Here’s what they said:
“We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.”
With Norton out, they’re gonna have to find someone who is just as good or better to play the role. And in my opinion, I’m not sure if that can be done. As I said above, Norton embodied Banner, and I’m not sure who they could get to do the same as he did in “The Incredible Hulk.”
