  1. I like sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Meta Critic. But I think often their scores become a lazy shorthand for discussing the artistic merrit of film. Great film isn’t like sports where the highest score wins. If you want to talk about the films you love then discuss their themes, storytelling, direction, editing, and cinematography. Talk about the characters and performances. Or what they meant to you personally. It’s a lot more challenging to talk about those quality than just quoting some score, or pointing to some award or talking about box office.

I’m really looking forward to Inception, and Nolan can be great. But I don’t think the 100% is gonna last long. It’s easy to have high scores when there’s only a few reviews.

  2. To switch gears completely; it looks like this film is really riding the zeitgiest. It would be easy for a risky (no brand recognition) expensive film like this to fail at the box office. But it looks positioned inspite of itself, to be a huge hit.
