With Matthew Vaughn directing the upcoming X-Men prequel, First Class, the cast list has risen and the spots have all been filled. All except for one. Yep, you guessed it: Cyclops. It was rumored back a few months ago that Aaron Johnson, who played the lead role in the Matthew Vaughn-directed Kick Ass (which just hit DVD shelves), would have the role. Today, according to ScreenRant it has been confirmed by producer Tarquin Pack that this is false.
The thought of a proper onscreen version of Cyclops has been a titillating hook for X-Men: First Class – however, according to Pack, it won’t be Johnson who attempts to do the character justice: “…Don’t believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron’s kind of busy, yeah.”
To tell you the truth I don’t care who’ll play Cyclops as long as they get the character right. The sad thing about the X-Men films is that Cyclops didn’t really show how he was the leader of the team and frankly just underused. He’s my least favorite character in the original movies but hopefully they will fix this flaw in this film.
As for Aaron Johnson not playing, it would have been nice but when you’re busy, you’re busy. As long as they don’t get someone like Justin Timberlake or someone without much experience I’m fine with it.
