I’m not huge on the idea of an Avatar sequel let alone an Avatar trilogy (I think the film worked well as just a stand alone film), but they’re gonna be made anyway so I might as well just welcome it. In an interview with MTV, James Cameron discussed the upcoming trilogy and stated that he might do the same thing as the Pirates and Matrix films did: shooting the sequels back to back.
“We’re actually talking about [doing 2 and 3] back to back. That’s not a decision yet but that’s something that makes a lot of sense given the nature of these productions because we can bank all the capture and go back and do cameras over a period of time… cause the way these sort of back to back productions fall apart is you’re trying to do two live-action films back to back and you’re working on it for like a year and a half shooting. Everybody’s dead- it’s not humanly possible. But this type of film it absolutely would work.”
Cameron has stated many times that he is a perfectionist and that he will do anything to make a film great. Again I’m not huge on the fact that they are making the sequels, but James Cameron definitely has shown us several times that no matter what we think, we will be amazed.
