There has been a good amount of talk surrounding yet another Superman film. Seriously, you’d think they’d tone it down, wouldn’t ya (bit of sarcasm)? However, they are making another and Christopher Nolan is set to produce. However, the search for a director has been quite a search. And finally it comes down to…Zack Snyder.
Cinematical gives us the low-down:
This just in: Deadline reports that Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct the next ‘Superman‘ movie for Warner Bros. The news comes rather shortly after the shortlisted directors were revealed, including the likes of Snyder, Tony Scott and Duncan Jones, but apparently it did not take long for the studio to make their decision. Snyder has been working with Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures for his past few films (‘Suckerpunch’, ‘Legend of the Guardians’, ‘Watchmen’, ‘300’), and so considering the two have such a great working relationship, it’s only right that they pair up once again in order to bring Superman back to the big screen in the most spectacular way possible.
The decision to bring Snyder on came not long after he met with Christopher Nolan about the project. Nolan, who’s directed the past two ‘Batman’ films for Warner Bros. (and will direct the third one, due in 2012), was instrumental in bringing together this new Superman movie. It’ll be based on an idea he and David Goyer (who’s writing the script) had, and at this time we’re not sure whether it will be a straight reboot of the character, or if they’ll do what Bryan Singer did and pick up the Superman story where it last left off. One other direction to go in would be to tell a solo Superman story that has nothing at all to do with Singer’s version, but picks up long after the Man of Steel has arrived on earth.
I think Snyder is a great director, and I actually believe that he can do a much different Superman film than what has been done in the past. Plus with Nolan on board as producer, its no doubt that this is going to be worth looking into.
Now we just need to know who will be Superman!
