A couple of months back, it was announced that Peter Jackson would direct The Hobbit, and since then there has been a lot of casting. Martin Freeman is playing Bilbo Baggins, several of the dwarfs have been announced, and it is likely that Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis will return as well.
But now there are some more cast notes, which I’m not sure will work or not (but of course in Jackson’s hands it should turn out fine), that popped up this week. According to Deadline, the characters of Galadriel (played by Cate Blanchett in LOTR) and Legolas (played by Orlando Bloom in LOTR) will be present in The Hobbit.
Now it has been confirmed that Cate Blanchett will reprise her role and has been stated that it is “likely” that Bloom will reprise his role. To be honest I’m not so sure seeing as he’s taken a break from film and started working on stage. But I’m sure he’ll be up to it, seeing as it’s the part that brought him into the world of film in the first place.
I think this is a good choice, even though I’m not so sure how it will work, so it will get a sense of unity between the trilogy and it’s prequel. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of (what I consider to be) the single greatest achievement of this past decade. I’m pumped for this movie and I want it out now. As for the actors, Blanchett is usually awesome when she’s not starring as a crazed Russian or Maid Marion, and while Bloom hasn’t had the best track record since (his worst performance is still Troy) I’ve never found him to be a bad actor and this may help him out a bit.
