“Kick-Ass” Movie Review

17 04 2010

https://i0.wp.com/www.iwatchstuff.com/2010/01/19/kick-ass-poster-paint.jpg

Release Date: April 16, 2010
Studio: Lionsgate
Director: Matthew Vaughn
Screenwriter: Jane Goldman, Matthew Vaughn
Starring: Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Mark Strong, Chloe Moretz, Nicolas Cage
Genre: Action, Adventure
MPAA Rating: R (for strong brutal violence throughout, pervasive language, sexual content, nudity and some drug use – some involving children)
Official Website: IAm-KickAss.com

Synopsis– A high school comic book nerd wonders why no one has ever tried to be a superhero. He decides to become a masked crusader, becomes famous online for beating up thugs on youtube, and finds that he’s way over his head, bumping into real vigilantes that are trying to take down a mob leader and getting involved in their war.

Forget funny, forget violent, forget gore and vulgar.

This movie is ALL OF THE ABOVE- but what really made it stand out was how touching it was. There were some extremely touching scenes in this movie, that where moving. I almost shed a tear once in the last 30 minutes.

The movie really keeps you on your toes with its amazing action and fantastic humor that never comes off as too juvenile.

https://i0.wp.com/thecia.com.au/reviews/k/images/kick-ass-3.jpg

Mark Strong was amazing as the villain mob leader, he did a great job of showing how crazy Kick-Ass was driving him.

Nicolas Cage was AMAZING. His performance along with Chloe Moretz’s made me almost shed tears at some points. The fight scenes were beautifully handled, some of the greatest fight scenes ever. The way they set up the fight scenes was awesome, the music and build up to every fight scene was spectacular to say the least.

Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz) was amazing. She did not surprise me because i already read the script, in fact it was Big Daddy that surprised me. Chloe Moretz is going to freaking ROCK, expect to see her a lot from now on.

https://i0.wp.com/www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/kick-ass_photo2.jpg

The only thing i did not like, is that Nic Cages character (Big Daddy) never really has any confrontation with Marc Strong’s character (DaMico) which is a shame because obviously they had some beef with each other.

It made me clap, laugh, and kept me awake. Wonderful movie and I hope hey make many more!

The great thing is that no one is really the star, everyone was phenomenal.

If you think this movie is inappropriate, youre fucking retarded. Movies are supposed to be inappropriate, bloody, wrong, bad and inhumane. Because we cant do that shit in the real world, movies are a place of escapism. Thats why theres ratings.

Clash Of The Titans Review

3 04 2010

https://i0.wp.com/image3.examiner.com/images/blog/EXID30527/slideshows/clash%20of%20titans%202.jpg

Release Date: April 1, 2010 (8pm, 3D/2D theaters)
Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures
Director: Louis Leterrier
Screenwriter: Travis Beacham, Phil Hay, Matt Manfredi
Starring: Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes
Genre: Action, Fantasy
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for fantasy action violence, some frightening images and brief sensuality)
Official Website: Clash-of-the-Titans.com

Synopsis– Zeus’ human son decides to take revenge against the Gods after Hades kills his family. Joined by other humans who seek to revenge the Gods’ unjust ways, Perseus looks for a way to defeat the Krakken in order to weaken Hades and have his vengeance and finds evil foes he must defeat on this quest.

So I’m watching this movie again on Sunday with Rachel and her uncle. I loved this movie. This movie was made for teenage boys or people looking for popcorn fun, and cool action. Period.

I have made many mistakes in the past, harshly reviewing movies that are simply not for me, mostly Dreamwork’s stuff. I realized this now. Dreamworks movies weren’t MADE for me, or my dad. They where made for children. So, should these movies be reviewed harshly?

From NOW ON I will review movies from a critic point of view AND from a target audience point of view. Im surprised no ne has ever told me to do so.

https://i0.wp.com/moviecultists.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/clash-of-the-titans-kraken-575x328.jpg

As the action movie with cool scenes, it was SPECTACULAR! So cool, and thrilling. Definitely worth the money and time.

I’m a big fan of music in movies, remember how cool the rock music made the trailer of Clash of the Titans? I fit so well, just like the beautiful music played while the good flying scenes happened in How To Train Your Dragon. Music thats LOUD, FITS, AND EXCITES. I hate it when movies have music that doesnt fit the scenes, and you can barely hear it. Or doesnt excite or contribute to whatever feel the movie has.

Imagine the Clash of the Titans trailer with slow music sang by Justin Timberlake. Exactly.

Well the action in this movie would have been 4x better with better music, thats all.

This movie did a GREAT job of making the Gods seem real, I’ve always said ‘Besides Morgan Freeman… God will always look lame in movies” but the Gods in this movie looked BELIEVABLY good. Before you watch the movie you must KEEP IN MIND that in Greek Mythology, Gods show up a second after someone pisses on their church, unlike our gods who hold grudges for thousands of years. It’s no the movie, in Greek religion their Gods where EVERYWHERE all the time.

https://i0.wp.com/www.kralix.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/clash-of-the-titans-poster-3.jpg

As a critics point of view though, I have to admit that this movie had so many plot holes, it deserves about 7 YouTube “How It Should Have Ended” videos.

Sam Worthington gives his usual stale performance, I mean the guy is a seriously horrible actor. He’s good at the violent savage roles. Like the scenes in Avatar in which he had to scream in battle rage, but when it comes to civil scenes with conversations, the guy is painful to look at.

Please don’t watch it in 3D, we all know that this movie was released weeks late because they rushed 3D to it, and everyone HATES the 3D in this movie, obviously, because it was sloppy.

Once you settle yourself in the “This is a fantasy, and in this fantasy, God (Zeus,Hades) is apparently EVERYWHERE all the time” mindset, youll be okay. Do NOT forget this is Greek Mythology!

https://i0.wp.com/a123.g.akamai.net/f/123/12465/1d/www.dose.ca/movies/Review+Clash+Titans/2754050/2754051.bin

I want more of these made (and they will, 2 more at least) and this movie had plot holes and some bad performances and some great ones… but overall what highlighted the movie was the amazing action and cool villains.

https://i0.wp.com/images2.fanpop.com/image/photos/9600000/Hiccup-Toothless-how-to-train-your-dragon-9626230-2000-850.jpg

The reviews for this movie have been of the charts good. And the trailer was really good, so I walked in expecting a really cool movie.

Well I was wrong, it wasnt a cool movie, it was an AMAZING movie.

I kinda knew the flying scenes would be cool, but they where THRILLING. In 3D the experience is seriously awesome. When Toothless takes Hiccup to go flying for the first time, this movie TAKES OFF. The character of Hiccup and Toothless where really good but when put together, they complete the best part of this movie.

https://i0.wp.com/media4.comcast.net/thumbnails/m_ParamountPictures/234/680/howtoraintyourdragonhero_806x453.jpg

Not only does this movie have a very obvious and good moral, but it is EXTREMELY touching. Almost Pixar-like.

The ending, and a lot of scenes in this movie where exremely touching and cute. Especially the ending. No a thrilling ending, but youll have to see it to understand.

This movie is family friendly, extremely fun, and it’s more then fun, its emotional and you care about the characters and you care about the movie, its definitely worth the money of 3D or IMAX.

Please do yourself a favor, and take your whole family to see this movie.

It’s nice to see Dreamworks do something other then fucking fart jokes, hip hop and sexual innuendo.

Alice In Wonderland Review

7 03 2010

https://i0.wp.com/www.canmag.com/images/front/movies2009/aliceposter7.jpgRelease Date: March 5, 2010 (Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D)
Studio: Walt Disney Pictures
Director: Tim Burton
Screenwriter: Linda Woolverton
Starring: Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover, Mia WasikowskaMichael Sheen
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy
MPAA Rating: PG (for fantasy action/violence involving scary images and situations, and for a smoking caterpillar)
Official Website: Disney.com

Synopsis– Alice is always told what to do and how to live her life… while having dreams of the strange Wonderland. But one day she tries to run away from her world in which she is bossed around… and returns to a Wonderland ruled by the Red Queen were Alice learns to make her own path and decide her own destiny.

https://i0.wp.com/static.blogcritics.org/10/03/03/127813/Alice1.jpg

So the graphics were nice on one hand. But on the other hand- sometimes they looked extremely fake. Like in Crispin Glover’s character- he has to ride a horse… the horse could have been a real one… why did they have to use a CGI horse????? It looked fake, too.

Mia Wasikowska did a wonderful job of playing Alice, the casting was perfect. Everyone nailed their roles… of course Johnny Depp was great as well… but Ms. Wasikowska stole the show.

https://i0.wp.com/weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/books/blog/alice%20in%20wonderland%20via%20disney.jpg

I like the little details abut Alice… like the fact that she wont harm animals or her decision making… the way she handles problems and makes her own destiny was a really great touch to her character, and in my opinion the best part of the movie.

But unfortunately this movie had a fucking HORRIBLE story. I hated the ending.

Without spoiling the movie i can say that the main story for this movie has been done 50,000 times. As soon as the movie starts you can guess how it ends. hey actually show you in a scroll (they call it a calendar) how the movie ends.

https://i0.wp.com/pinoytutorial.com/lifebytes/wp-content/uploads/white_queen.jpg

And i KNOW that “nothing is original” anymore… and that its VERY difficult to come up with an original story now a days since everything’s been done. But this story was painfully overdone. Ill discuss it with full spoilage in my next podcast.

It was just such a PREDICTABLE story! I can name 45 movies with the same exact ending and plot. Avatar and Twilight did the same thing… but at least they brought NEW things to the table and CHANGED it completely, therefore making a new era of their own version of the story. trailblazers, not followers.

It seemed to me that Tim Burton was more worried in Burton-izing Wonderland then write a solid story. He seemed to want people to say “Oh cool! Wonderland but from Burton’s POV!” and completely forgot that the story makes a movie, not the effects.

Which is what sets Christopher Nolan apart from Cameron, Bay and Burton.

https://i0.wp.com/www.bscreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/mad-hatter-alice-in-wonderland.jpg

Some parts of the story were truly touching, it was somewhat funny and it had a good feel. Bu the story killed all of that.

Shutter Island Review

21 02 2010

https://i0.wp.com/4.bp.blogspot.com/_K4ncs0BvIRA/SmeqYN2WNlI/AAAAAAAAFSQ/98zcO5ksgdw/s400/shutter_island.jpg

Release Date: February 19, 2010
Studio: Paramount Pictures
Director: Martin Scorsese
Screenwriter: Laeta Kalogridis
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson
Genre: Psychological Thriller
MPAA Rating: R (for disturbing violent content, language and some nudity)

Synopsis– Two U.S. Marshals are sent to an island that holds criminally insane patients to solve the case of a patient who has gone missing, while one of the agents (Leonardo DiCaprio) solves more then just one mystery about the island and himself.

https://i0.wp.com/clothesonfilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Shutter-Island_Leonardo-DiCaprio_Michelle-Williams-yellow-dress.bmp.jpg

Ohhhhhh myyyyy GOOODDDD.

You need to see this movie. I theater-hopped from Wolfman to this, satisfied with the Wolfman, and thinking this would suck. I was fucking WRONG.

I LOVE the kind of movies that are mind-fucks, make you THINK, make you try and solve the mystery of the movie, so the audience tries to riddle it out, and at the end, there’s a HUGE twist. But this movie did what most thrillers don’t, the twist made PERFECT sense, answered all the questions, and delivered the BAM factor every good twist needs.

There were some Holocaust scenes that were 100% sad and glorious at the same time, and i loved those flashbacks

https://i0.wp.com/joyhog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/shutter-island-trailer.png

Some of the scenes of this movie (the flashbacks) were delightful to simply look at, beautifully shot. The look and feel of the flashbacks and of his nightmares were extremely creative, artistic and in a good way- not a sloppy random way.

Leonardo DiCaprio proved to me ONCE again why hes one of my top 3 favorite actors, the man can ACT. Why hasn’t he gotten an Oscar?? I dont know. His acing in this movie was top notch, i was wowed.

The WHOLE movie was a huge twist that has you holding on to anything, and THEN in the end… Leo says ONE LINE in the last scene that concludes the movie… and it SHOCKS you. If you understand exactly what he meant when he said it, youll riddle out what his character was about.

The Wolfman Review

21 02 2010

https://i0.wp.com/photogallery.filmofilia.com/data/media/40/the_wolfman_poster_02.jpg

Release Date: February 12, 2010
Studio: Universal Pictures
Director: Joe Johnston

Screenwriter: Andrew Kevin Walker, David Self
Starring: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving, Art Malik
Genre: Action, Horror
MPAA Rating: R (for bloody horror, violence and gore)

Official Website: TheWolfmanmovie.com

Synopsis– A man returns to his fathers home, after hearing news that his brother was brutally killed. After promising his brothers fiance to find whatever it is that killed his brother, he is bitten by the same werewolf that killed his brother, turning him into what he’s been hunting all along.

I would like to get this off my chest, Hugo Weaving’s character is fucking USELESS in this movie. He comes in supposedly to hunt for the wolf, and help everyone, but all he does is stand around- tell some bullshit cops what to do… and does absolutely nothing. I thought he would have more to do in this movie. Wow.

https://i0.wp.com/www.thecinemasource.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/The_Wolf_Man-Benicio_Del_Toro-Anthony_Hopkins-Emily_Blunt-Hugo_Weaving.jpg

The CGI was a lot of times LAUGHABLY bad… but sometimes it was pretty good. Like- there was a scene with a bear that looked so fake i had to literally laugh out loud. But other cool scenes made up for it. Some of the CGI was impressive, however.

Do you love gore? bloody violence? Organs being ripped apart? If you said yes to either of these, youll love this movie. Oh my GOD was this movie violent!! I simply loved the ACTION!! If you have a weak stomach please dont watch it, I went with Rachel and she kept hiding her face making gagging noises because of the amount of blood.

http://www.collider.com/wp-content/image-base/Movies/W/Wolfman_The/movie_images/The%20Wolfman%20movie%20(9).jpg

Bad thing about remakes is- you know how they end, thats all. The movie had some distracting cons but overall it was better then i thought it would be. It DOES have a couple of horror jump-scary scenes, so i recommend it.

Shane’s Review For Coraline

26 02 2010

https://i0.wp.com/forbiddenplanet.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/CoralinePoster.jpg

I meant to post this up a couple weeks ago. There was a blizzard earlier up where I lived about two weeks ago and I was out of school for about a week and a half. One day, out of sheer boredom, I decided to see this movie on Starz or HBO (one of the two). I didn’t get a chance to see it in the theaters, and I don’t know why I didn’t go see it.

SYNOPSIS

This film is based off the Neil Gaiman, who wrote novels such as The Graveyard Book and Stardust and co wrote the epic “Beowulf,” and is directed by Henry Selick of “Nightmare Before Christmas” fame. The film follows Coraline, a young girl, who moves into a new house with her unfair parents. While exploring the house she comes across a small door, but it doesn’t lead to anywhere. Late at night however, she discovers the a portal opens up and leads her to a world where her “Other Mother” and “Other Father” live. Everything seems like a dream come true, right? Well as the film goes along we see it isn’t that way after all.

THE GOOD

From the very beginning to the very end, I was into the movie. You fall in love with this character Coraline, played by the newly grown up Dakota Fanning, and you care for her and worry for her.

The animation is great. This is one of the few films made today using stop motion animation, and it is still amazing to this day.

This film is very scary. And I was surprised at how scared I was by it. There were moments with the other mother that creeped me out. This is probably the first time I’ve been scared by a movie that was non-horror since Lord of the Rings with the Ringwraiths.

I love how this film has references to other fantasy movies. I got a sense of a lot of “Pan’s Labyrinth” in the film, and that’s a good thing. Also several films like Alice in Wonderland and Narnia.

THE BAD

What the hell do you mean bad?

OVERALL

Coraline was an amazing film, almost as good as Up (and that’s saying a lot). It has all the things a great animated film needs and much more. It’s scary, it’s funny, it’s beautiful. This is one of the best fantasy films I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t seen it, what the hell are you doing reading this review, get out there now!

Now, goddammit, NOW.

I give Coraline a 9.5/10.

Legion(Guilty Pleasure?)[2010].

25 02 2010

http://bluemoviereviews.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/legion-poster.jpg?w=490

Director: Scott Stewart.

Cast: Paul Bettany, Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Lucas Black, Adrianne Palicki, Willa Holland, Kevin Durand.

So, despite the 1000 negative reviews all over the internet(including THC, the blog I REALLY love) I still had hopes for this one. Why? I love Dennis Quaid and I love Tyrese and add a bad-ass trailer and there, you got my attention. So, did it live up to my expectations? No, but it was pretty decent.

What’s It About

God is pissed off and he goes Nazi on mankind’s ass. One of his angels disobeys him and cuts off his wings to save humanity’s only hope and thus unleashing a fight for survival. ( I’m really sorry for this lousy synopsis).

The Cons

I’m doing THIS first because if you can get over the following things, you might just like it.

So, out of so many people in the whole world an unborn child is humanity’s only hope? That’s bullshit in my opinion.

God’s persona here is quite similar to Hitler’s. I mean, god goes crazy and a fallen angel is to prove him wrong? That is nuts, brazil nuts!

What was up with all those emotional conversations? Especially the ones between the pregnant girl and her boyfriend, the scenes dragged and it took forever to end. And where is all the action the trailer promised? I’m happy with all I got but still…

Why is it that every movie these days needs one idiot character that doesn’t try to understand the simplest logic and HAS to do something stupid and get killed. WTF?

The Pros

Paul Bettany. Hell yeah he’s awesome. The 3 action sequences with him were, without any doubt, the best thing of the whole movie. I can’t wait for PRIEST.

The movie is really funny and it took me by surprise. I may have a bad sense of humour but that’s me and I loved the comedy, especially Dennis Quaid’s lines. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, that’s right. Yesterday I was fucking Santa Clause.” LOL.

Tyrese Gibson. Badass as always.

The angel’s wing thing was AMAZING. The fight between Michael and Gabriel was great in a whole different level because of Gabriel’s wings. =D

I am disappointed with the action but whatever….. it was still frigging COOL. And the sharp-teethed monsters were cool in a funny way.

Best Line

“Audrey, honey? Your mother was wondering if you got dressed this morning with the specific intention of showing your ass off to the entire world.”

Overall

Although a huge letdown because this was on my most anticipated list, I still sort of liked it. A not-so-solid B-.

WHY isnt this movie Nominated for an Oscar!???

obviously when reading the above question, you may all know how i felt about this movie. The fact that The Hurt Locker got picked over this masterpiece makes me FURIOUS from the injustice.

Not only the movie but SAM ROCKWELL’S ACTING should be nominated for an Oscar! WOW! AMAZING. Top notch.

I will not spoil anything but the story is amazing, if you like a great twist, a great script and an amazing story…. WATCH THIS MOVIE.

https://i0.wp.com/www.cbc.ca/gfx/images/arts/photos/2009/07/02/arts-moon-movie-584.jpg

The acting. Was phenomenal. Sam Rockwell will play Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2, and now i want to see that for ANOTHER reason, him.

The story. Was beautiful. I thought it was obvious at first, but then as the story progressed I kept changing my “prediction” of how it would end. The whole movie was a good mind fuck, and i loved that. It kept me with it, beautifully.

https://i0.wp.com/www.empireonline.com/images/features/robot-sidekicks/gerty.jpg

Kevin Spacey as the machine, was phenomenal. They did such a great job of making the machine robot that helps him keep company.

WOW. I am shocked. Im so glad i bought this DVD.

Nope- i will not elaborate more. Heres my score, please go watch it. Youll love it, i guarantee it.

WARNING– If you watch this movie, you will have an urge to watch it again and again

https://i0.wp.com/www.aceshowbiz.com/images/news/00029896.jpg

I will have to say, this movie is took my by surprise!

I walked in expecting the BIGGEST pile of shit, EVER. But walked out thoroughly pleased. Its not fantastic, but it definitively worth 10 bucks.

I dont really like movies in which YOURE ahead of the film. “Oh I know whats going to happen next, its obvious” i like movies in which the MOVIE is steps ahead of you, like the Prestige. This movie is unfortunately one of those predictable ones.

I also appreciate they didnt throw in the girl just for the fuck of it, “the girl” actually serves a purpose to this movie.

https://i0.wp.com/media.daemonsmovies.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/from_paris_with_love_movie_preview_articleimg-500x288.jpg

Sure, its predictable, and the story is extremely average. But I was shocked at how funny it was. Every scene with John Travolta made me laugh, his lines were pure gold. Some lines were cheesy, but his delivery was ACE.

With no spoilers I can say that some of the scenes in this movie were great. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was the surprise of the movie, theres a scene with him that has to do with crack and a Chinese vase that made me LAUGH OUT LOUD. It was really nicely done.

https://i0.wp.com/media.avclub.com/images/media/movie/7128/From-Paris-With-Love_jpg_595x325_crop_upscale_q85.jpg

The comedy and good action drove this movie, with a good delivery of “These two guys are the perfect partners” but unfortunately the first 15 minutes of the movie were painful to watch. But as soon as Travolta is introduced, the movie kicks off.

I hate it when they make a badass character, thats so badass… he comes off as a douche and a careless ape. But they handled Travoltas character beautifully so he has some balance of badass and realistic.

Again, not a masterpiece, but it definitively prove my prediction wrong. Its a worthy treat, if you feel like not watching Avatar for the 45th time, give this movie a shot.

Edge of Darkness Review

4 02 2010

http://liveforfilms.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/edge_of_darkness_ver2.jpg?w=401&h=594

Hey guys. So I hope everyone’s doing good. I watched Edge of Darkness on the internet just an hour ago and thought I might just do a review for this movie because Mel Gibson is my FAVORITE director and 2nd favorite actor right after Will Farell but Mel isn’t a director in this movie but an actor. The directing job was assigned to Martin Campbell. But anyways ,lol, this really is the perfect comeback role for Mel, one that makes you look back to some of his most memorable roles, but also allowing him to stretch as an actor. He’s returning after eight years with a new perspective and maturity towards what his job as actor entails. There’s little question that when it comes to carrying a movie as a leading man, Gibson is still one of the best, and while his acting starts ehhhhh shaky, Gibson over time finds his legs with the character. When i watched Brave Heart for the first time after one of my basketball practices, I noticed how well Gibson delivers the accent of a Scottish warrior and he delivers (perfectly) a heavy Boston accent with the type of nasally voice we might normally expect from Dustin Hoffman. But yea in the movie his daughter Emma (Bojana Novakovic) comes home to visit and shortly after becomes sick and after vomiting blood.Craven decides to take her to the hospital and when she was barely out of the front door, she’s shot dead in a drive by.

//

edgeofdarkness1

The police are convinced he’s the target of the shooter, but Craven begins his own investigation and gradually begins to realize he’s slapped around in the middle of a massive conspiracy which has wider implications than he could ever realize.

The problem with this is that the central story of corruption is nothing new and is not really told in an entirely original way. There’s Ray Winstone’s mysterious government agent Jedbergh, who mumbles and menaces his way through the story; he tries for enigmatic and ends up confused as to which side he’s on (which is freaking retarded); there’s a sinister shadowy cabal who meet to decide how it’ll pan out – and there’s betrayal aplenty.

edgeofdarkness2

Aside from some jolts to your nerve moments (which are obviously coming), there’s little original in how this pans out. .That’s not to say it’s not good – it’s merely middle of the road, generic, formulaic thriller with chases, scenes of suspense and twists aplenty.

At the end of the day, Gibson’s probably the main reason to see this.

Okay, Now I Understand It! Here’s Shane The Dragonslayer’s Short Thoughts on Memento

15 02 2010

As many of you know I put up a post about how I watched Memento, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Guy Pearce and Carrie Anne Moss. I stated that I enjoyed the film but didn’t completely understand it. Now that I do understand it, I’m gonna give a short, real review.

In short, it is a great movie. It’s probably something I’m gonna have to watch a little more to fully understand, but I loved it. The actors are great, and I loved how the film was edited going backwards to see how these things came to be.

Overall: 8.5/10

Triangle(2010)-Review.

15 02 2010

Melissa George is awesome.

https://i0.wp.com/www.traileraddict.com/content/icon-entertainment-international/triangle.jpg

Director: Christopher Smith(Creep & Severance).

Cast: Melissa George, Liam Hemsworth, Michael Dorman.

What’s It About

A worthless mommy(Melissa George) who sucks at taking care of her child, and likes to sail overboard with her guy-friends finds herself in a shitload of trouble when the yacht she sailed in hits a storm and is forced to board a ocean liner to get to safety. And apparently, she feels like she knows this place and more than everything, there is a lone killer onboard(it might sound like a typical slasher but it is not).

The Pros

The premise of the whole movie is splendid. To avoid spoilers, I’m not elaborating much, but it’s pretty interesting. Add some good acting and direction with that and obviously you’ll get a decent enough movie. I’m not that familiar with Melissa George but she did an outstanding job in this film. Michael Dorman and Liam Hemsworth backed her up in a good way.

This movie made me think. And there is these WTF moments that caught me off guard, and at some scenes I was like HOLY SHIT! and I kept wondering what’s gonna happen next. The action is pretty neat and done in a nice way. There’s these moments when I didn’t know what’s going on and BOOM! Shotgun violence, the terror, the building-up tension, everything just worked for me.

I love angry ocean. When the mighty blue ocean is pissed and is ready to kick any sorts of ship’s ass, I find myself satisfied. In here, the director did a great job visualizing this scene.

https://i0.wp.com/3.bp.blogspot.com/_wZMgkdxJqQQ/Sti5Ni8axeI/AAAAAAAAAPk/0XYNicpamZI/s400/the-triangle-3352.jpg

I know, what the fuck, right? Not Really, this is nothing compared to what’s coming.

The Cons

So, what’s the point then? The ending revealed to us the mystery but what’s the point?

******MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD********
So, they are stuck in a time period and the whole thing is repeating over and over again. What happens to the rest of the world? What happens to the other people around who knows about them? I found myself very unsatisfied with the ending and was expecting a REAL SOLUTION. And there wasn’t any. This bothers me whenever I think of the movie.

Gore/Violence/Nudity

No gore. Quite a good amount of action movie type violence. No REAL nudity but Melissa George has got a nice pair of legs.

Overall

A very entertaining movie that kept me at the edge of my seat. The ending left me blank and asking for more. Great nonetheless. I’ll give this a 7 out of 10.

Ninja Assassin-Review.

14 02 2010

Director: James McTeigue.
Cast: Rain, Naomi Harris.

Ninja Assassin is the reason I’m cursing out at a lot of people right now(and it’s not who you think I’m cursing). So, yes the movie falls short on a lot of aspects. There is close to no plot to this movie. It started slow(doesn’t mean the pace was bad), a lot of flashbacks and scattered action here and there. The first 30 minutes was a little distracting but once I got used to it, I started to enjoy the movie. Naomi Harris did great, Rain was so awesome and badass that right now I want to be a good ninja like him. However, the rest of the cast failed to impress me. And the chinese girl relating Rain’s charcter’s sub-plot made close to no sense at all. Anyways, when I knew enough about the character’s backstory and stuff, the real thing started. Kick-ass action and gore fucked my brain up and in a good way. It’s been a long time since I saw such badass action. This is why I love ninjas, these people can do all sorts of cool things others cannot.

So, this is no V for Vendetta(same director), but if you dig movies like Kill Bill then I’m quite sure you are definitely gonna like this. Yes, the story was not all that awesome and yes the dialogues were off one or two times. The fact is you either love it or hate it. I’m game for all kinds of sick action so I loved it. 6.5/10.

And by the way, I’m cursing at the ninjas, I just want to be like them and the sad truth is I will never be. Share what you think.

A Serious Man Review

14 02 2010

SCORE: 7/10

Let me start off by saying every review I have from now until the Oscars will be the ones nominated for best picture, and I’ve seen all of them. Thanks for reading this review. So, I love the Coen brothers’ work immensely. No Country For Old Men is easily in my top 5-10 of all time. So I couldn’t wait to see this. Was it Oscar worthy? Yes, but at times we are left scratching our heads.

This film deals with the Jewish culture/religion in some parts. My family happens to be Jewish, so those parts are not what confused me. The film has trouble deciding what it wants to be at times. Comedy or a drama? Well, it’s not really that funny. Only in about three scenes do you laugh. So, it’s not a comedy. It IS a drama. The main question the Coen’s raise in this film is “What is the meaning of your existence” or “Why do things keep happening to you?” The film begins with a qoute from a person saying “Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you”. But, this film is anything but simple.

I guess an outrageous/funny thing about it is that the events happening to Larry (the main character) are so bizarre that it happens to be funny once you look at it. In a way it’s a sad movie because it really doesn’t offer any hope for Larry. His son getting high at various points throughout was funny. And the ending was funny.

But really, I don’t know what I just watched. The Coen’s however have a smart way of making you think. In a way, the film was excellent. In a way, it wasn’t/ I’m left scratching my head.

Avatar-Ifaz’s Take.

12 02 2010

Because I live halfway around the world, it took me a while to watch it and I finally did. I won’t elaborate much because a lot has been talked about ‘Avatar’ and there is like 4 reviews in here. I didn’t even want to do a review but the movie is so amazing that I had to.

So, I’m a douche and I never got around watching ‘Dances With The Wolves’ or ‘Pocahontas’. And that is why I don’t know what all the buzz is about Avatar being similar to them. Yes, I thought the story was sometimes predictable but who the fuck cares when the other things are SO good.

I don’t think I have to say this ‘cause everyone knows how awesome the visuals and actions were. The last battle was epic, I don’t remember when was the last time I had chills (of this amount).

Stephen Lang, Signourey Weaver and Sam Worthington were great. I don’t think that needs to be mentioned. But I wondered why the other 3 supporting actors weren’t mentioned. I mean, I loved Giovanni Ribisi, Joel Moore and Michelle Rodriguez, I really did. I always thought Ribisi was a pussy but in Avatar he took his pussiness to a whole new level (this is a compliment). The coward villain he played was awesome. I love Joel Moore since I saw Hatchet; the guy has got comedic skills. And I jumped up from my seat when THAT happened to Michelle Rodriguez’s character and maybe a drop or two tears came out. The emotions were so greatly delivered by the actors and I found myself caring for each of them. And for fuck’s sake Cameron, why would you do that Weaver.

So overall, Avatar is my second favorite movie of 2009(Inglorious Basterds being the first). I will be watching The Hurt Locker in a week. Ignore all the political, racial and religious shit and get your ass up to watch it if you haven’t already did 10 times.

Share what you think peeps.

Daybreakers-Review.

11 02 2010

https://i0.wp.com/www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/daybreakers_poster-535x730.jpg

Director: The Spierig Brothers.

Cast: Ethan Hawke, William Dafoe, Sam Neill, Claudia Karvan, Michael Dorman, Isabel Lucas.

What’s It About

It’s the year 2019, a sort of a disease turned humanity into bloodsuckers. Those who chose to remain human is hunted down and farmed for blood, but the storm is coming, as the blood supply is decreasing. And if the vampires are without blood for a couple of days they turn into bat-type brainless monsters, which by the way they don’t want to turn into. So, a couple of vamps are trying to find cure which is on the surface, actually they are looking for a blood substitute. In the group of geniuses, Edward Dalton(Ethan Hawke) who is a GOOD vampire, sort of like Edward Cullen who also happen to not drink human blood. Anyways, he saves a couple of human and thus finding out a way to meet the leader (Dafoe) and save humanity from it’s brink of extinction.

The Pros

I love Ethan Hawke for what he is, and that was exactly the reason to watch this movie. He did not let me down. Though his character is a 60% rip-off of another famous shining vampire, he still managed to pull it off a whole lot better than the other dude (Pattinson) [Take note: I kinda like Twilight]. I never really got around liking William Dafoe, but he was quite good and funny in here. His cheesy one-liners were great in my opinion. And the others did a decent enough job to make me care for their character so it is safe to say that the acting was pretty good.

I loved the premise of Daybreakers. Unlike recent vamp movies, the humans are the minority here, which was done in a pretty good way. And it was dark, the grittiness was awesome.

Though there were only a few action sequences, they were at least enjoyable. And the cure, knowing what the cure is, was a whole lot of fun.

The Cons

Is it me or the opening scene was just dumb (-ish)?

I was expecting to see some big battle between the vamps and humans and I was disappointed with the sparse action I got.

Isabel Lucas’s character could’ve been used for a far better purpose. They misused her.

Clichés. And these helped the movie to be forgetting and typical. I had fun while watching it but I barely remember anything.

2 fucking jump scares. Boo! I scared you. (Yeah you scared my ass).

Violence/Gore/Nudity

Vampires burning, blowing up. Vomiting, blood splattering everywhere, eating blood. On the gore scale it was fun. No real nudity.

Best Line

“Living as humans in a world ruled by vampires is about as safe as bare backing a 5 dollar whore.” OR “What’s to cure.”

Overall

I’d suggest to rent it. Or watch if you cannot get enough of vampires. It’s no ‘Underworld’ but it’s fun. I’ll give this a B-.

The Lovely Bones Review

16 01 2010

SCORE:6.5/10

Let me start off by saying I’ve never read the book-but I’m a firm believer in “the movie is the movie and the book is the book”. I predicted in 2009 that The Lovely Bones would be a huge contender at the Oscars for Best Picture. Quickly, seemingly overnight though, those hopes faded as the reviews shredded this thing to pieces. Not just by critics, but by film fans as well. The trailer looked amazing to me, but I went into this fingers crossed. Is it great? Bad? Well, a little of both.

The visuals were amazing, and in a way they are one of the highlights here. It’s beautiful to look at. However the film’s pacing is off and it ends with a very disappointing climax. I’ll get to that later. Mr. Harvey was CREEPY. The man had serious issues and (this is not a spoiler) absolutely loved, i mean LOVED killing girls. There’s a scene after Susie’s murder, involving a bathroom that’s just grotesque. I warn you-this is a very dark and very gritty film. It’s extremely violent. Cats and dogs get murdered so if you are an animal lover (like myself) just..be sure you know what’s coming. Too dark for a PG-13, but we all know why it has that rating.

The first 40 minutes are interesting, pretty much intense throughout. Like I said earlier, the pacing is off. It would go from dark-happy-dark-violent. Something wasn’t quite right, but besides pacing, I never could put my finger on it. The dialogue is pretty good. Not amazing, but actually it was good dialogue. The trailer showed what looked to be an action packed, hold-on-to-your-seat climax…but it wasn’t.

The climax had little action, some suspense, and a very weird ending. Kind of a disappointing one too. Parts of this don’t make any sense whatsoever. All in all, The Lovely Bones has some great stuff in it, but it also has some not so great stuff. I want to call it great, but I also want to call it a big letdown.

LEGION review

28 01 2010

Legion Poster - Click to View Extra Large Image

So last night I saw this movie with my father and I was surprised. The nicest thing I can say about Legion is that it’s conventional. All of the elements and characters you’d expect from a siege movie are here. For example a remote location (deserts work best), a stranger with a past, a single mom, a bickering married couple, a wise black guy, a local bohunk who can’t live up to his full potential as long as he stays in this dead town, and a dude that shows up out of nowhere and starts barking orders because he’s the only one that knows exactly what’s going on. You even get the “don’t open that door or we’re all dead” scene several times, which, in all honesty, kind of loses its impact after the first time when they don’t end up “all dead”.

What sets Legion apart is its faithful devotion. The plot is that God is fed up with “all the bullshit” (as explained to us in Adrienne Palicki’s voiceover at the start of the film and repeated verbatim at the end, for those of us who can’t remember things that happened ninety minutes ago). He sends the archangel Michael (Paul Bettany) down to a greasy-spoon diner to kill the unborn baby of Palicki’s character, Charlie, for no specific reason (Some lip service is paid to Charlie’s baby being the thing that will save mankind, whatever that means. This movie doesn’t like dealing in specifics). Michael changes his mind, decides to save the baby, and basically screws things up for the whole world — causing an unstoppable horde of angel-possessed human monsters and rival archangel Gabriel (Kevin Durand, most famous for playing lunkheads) to try and finish the job.

Bitch Slap(2010)-Review.

28 01 2010

https://i0.wp.com/www.moviesonline.ca/movie-gallery/albums/userpics//poster_bitch_slap_xlg.jpg

I know y’ll are thinking that this is the right moment to go Nazi or Jackie Chan on my ass ’cause I actually watched this film. Anyways, here goes the review and I’ll keep it short.

Think of an orgy between Sin City, Smokin’ Aces, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill and then 9 months later Bitch Slap is the ‘head-banged up’ child born. But the movies I mentioned are all great but this is nowhere close to them. It is visually a broke dude’s Sin City. It is something nobody will remember(except the lesbian scene, I still remember it). This is a cheap exploitation flick so I didn’t expect much. I ignored the cheesy visuals and horrible acting of Americo Olivio and I sat through it without any problems until the first cat fight ended(1 hr 15 minutes). But then it was followed by another repeatative cat fight which was unbearable, think about it once, how boring can it get that a cat fight seems unbearable. The obvious twist which revealed to us that one of the chick was a ‘non-human’, yeah how cool(or shitty) is that? And then comes what ruined my day, a shitload of awful, painful visuals that made me scream twice at the screen.

The movie has ridiculous amount of boob-shots that will distract you away from the movie, and I’m pretty sure that’s EXACTLY what the director intended to do.
And I should mention this, the 2 other girls(especially Julia Voth) did some good acting. I clearly did not expect it from them.

Now, this movie has the potential of becoming one’s guilty pleasure but if somebody actually ‘likes’ it, I think s/he has issues. I’ll give it a 38%(D).

Share what you think about the post, or don’t. But you should.

Up In The Air-Review.

2 02 2010

https://i0.wp.com/www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/upintheair_poster.jpg

Director: Jason Reitman

Cast: George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, Jason Bateman, Danny McBride.

Synopsis: Ryan Binghams’s job is to fire people from theirs. The anguish, hostility and despair of his clients has left him compassionate, living out of a suitcase, and loving every second of it. When his boss hires arrogant young Natalie, she develops a method of video conferencing that will allow termination without ever leaving the office-essentially threatening the existence Ryan so cherishes. Determined to show the naive girl the error of her logic, Ryan takes her on one cross country firing expeditions, but as she starts to realize the disheartening realities of her profession, he begins to see the downfalls to his way of life.

The trailer looked cool and George Clooney is in it, so I finally went to see it.

The best thing about Jason Reitman(Juno, Thank you for smoking) is that he can combine comedy with emotions. The movie caught me off guard in the funny department, I wasn’t expecting any comedy but boom! a hilarious one-liner. George Clooney is amazing as always and I love Vera Farmiga since I saw The Departed and Running Scared. But who surprised me is Anna Kendrick, I knew her from Twilight(a friend of Bella) in which her character was rather bland, but I am really surprised at how much I loved her in this one. She was pretty, she acted good without being annoying, what more do I need?

Another good thing about Reitman, his movies has something deep, a message or something in it so when the movie ends it feels good, different, whatever. The dialogues were great, the story was great, overall the whole movie was great.

I won’t say it totally was unpredictable, because I did see a (big)thing coming.

That’s all I got to say about this movie, it is designed this way so that you cannot pick up the small things and talk about it. Is there a chance of oscar noms? Maybe, maybe not. Is it entertainig? HELL YEAH! So, watch it if you get a chance, all I can say is that you won’t regret watching it but sure as hell would be missing a lot. I’ll give it 8.5/10.

Gamer DVD review

1 02 2010

http://geeskomitee.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/gamer-movie-poster.jpg?w=395&h=585

Hey guys. I rented the movie Gamer from the Red Box at a Wal-Mart and watched it eating some shake ‘n bake pork chops. Well I have to say this movie is meant to be a total rush. Action is frantic, life is cheap, images hit fast, characters barely register, and the whole experience is one of desensitization. Me being an athlete I have no doubt that Crankheads will eat it up.

The “Crank” films saw Jason Statham rushing here and there to keep his heart pumping hard so that a Chinese poison wouldn’t kill him. In “Gamer,” an athletic Gerard Butler (from my favorite movie 300) dashes through an urban battle zone, wasting faceless, nameless opponents without any control over his actions. For Kable – a prisoner who can supposedly terminate a commuted sentence by participating in these gladiatorial games – is controlled (via implanted computer chips in the brain) by Simon (Logan Lerman). This teen video prodigy guides him to weekly victories that enthrall millions around the globe.

The Hurt Locker Blu-Ray Review

16 01 2010

Release Date: June 26, 2009 (NY, LA)
Studio: Summit Entertainment
Director: Kathryn Bigelow
Screenwriter: Mark Boal
Starring: Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Ralph Fiennes, Guy Pearce
Genre: Action, Drama
MPAA Rating: R (for war violence and language)
Official Website: TheHurtLocker-movie.com

Synopsis- A U.S. Army soldier who is part of a Explosive Ordnance Disposal squad helps clear danger from the streets of Baghdad by defusing bombs and showing heroism in the field, showing how intense and tedious it is to have a job that has room for no mistakes.

https://i0.wp.com/images.allmoviephoto.com/2009_The_Hurt_Locker/2009_the_hurt_locker_006.jpg

So Ill start off by saying, I have NO IDEA what the big deal with this movie is. I hate it when the hype is so enormous that when you watch the movie it is ALWAYS a let down.

BY THE WAY, this movie is exactly why Rotten Tomatoes is a flawed system. Its got a 97% of approval rating, but tell me this… does 100% of those positive reviews say it was 97%? A movie can have a lot of 60%’s and get a 100. Thats why RT is bullshit

https://i0.wp.com/www.worleygig.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Hurt-Locker.jpg

This movie is SLOW. I wouldnt call it a movie as much as a documentary. If I wasnt a person that was interested by force in the military, i would hate this movie. Sure, i understand that its extremely realistic, but its a movie… sometimes being too realistic isnt so great in a movie. There are parts in which the main character makes some HORRIBLE decisions, i mean- HORRIBLE. And these decisions are made to show how the consequences impact him, but I was just shocked at how much of an idiot this guy was.

There was a scene in which the main character goes somewere to do something, and it turns ut to be the 2nd most suspenseful scene in the movie, then he realizes he was wrong and wasnt supposed to be there because X character didnt live there, he went to the wrong house.

http://emmalee1.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/the-hurt-locker.jpg?w=281&h=157

There were two scenes that were somewhat suspenseful but the rest of the movie ruined them. There was a GREAT part in which he irnically made a great friend out of an Iraqi child, and it turned out to be a great story, but they KILLED it towards the end (not part of the main plot) i thought they dropped the ball on that. Ralph Fiennes my favorite actor is in this movie, i was happy about that… until i realized they gave him 1 line. Fuck my life.

The story sucks, i know i may be asking for too much but… the backbone of a movie is “introduce…fight…almost lose…do something cool…win…end” and i know thats not all movies, only action movies. But this movie literally has no climax or “ending”

HOWEVER, the main character Jeremy Renner… did fantastic…. i thought he delivered perfectly. But it doesnt make up for the rest. The suspense never follows a great fight scene. Its a fuse that never goes off… youre waiting for the big bang until the movie ends… and it never comes.

Book Of Eli Review

16 01 2010

https://i0.wp.com/www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/The-Book-of-Eli-Poster.jpgRelease Date: January 15, 2010Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures
Director: Allen Hughes, Albert Hughes
Screenwriter: Gary Whitta
Starring: Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson, Jennifer Beals, Frances de la Tour, Michael Gambon, Evan Jones, Joe Pingue, Tom Waits
Genre: Action, Adventure
MPAA Rating: R (for some brutal violence and language)
Official Website: TheBookofElimovie.com

Synopsis- A man goes on a quest to take his book somewhere safe, while trying to protect it from people who want to use it for other reasons.

Went to see it today, and again- the trailer was misleading. The action was extremely top notched, and the acting was overall great.

https://i0.wp.com/blogs.amctv.com/scifi-scanner/Book-of-Eli-560.jpg

It starts off letting you know of the over-styled “300″ feel from the very first scene, it may turn some people off but I like the look of it. Denzel I thought was a great casting choice and Gary Oldman stole the show. Unfortunately the girl Mila Kunis, who i hate… was in the movie. Im pretty sure she ruined the good parts of this movie for me.

I dont want to sound like a dick, but the last couple of movies ive seen lately have been ruined by irrelevant female characters. Writters need to start giving women real fucking roles, or just dont show them. Maybe they just put women as characters for the fuck of it.

https://i0.wp.com/wearemoviegeeks.com/wp-content/book-of-eli-5.jpg

I dont want to spoil too much of the movie so I wont get too into it, but it was really great… the last scene could have ended in a fantastic finale but the girl ruined. Some of the good or bad things I cant talk about without spoilers, so ill leave it to you, the readers… to bring it up.

Sherlock Holmes Review

27 12 2009

Here is my podcast version of the review:

Btw im sorry i sound weird, i didnt wanna wake my bother, who was asleep.

https://i0.wp.com/www.torrentfive.com/portadas/sherlock_holmes.jpgRelease Date: December 25, 2009
Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures
Director: Guy Ritchie
Screenwriter: Michael Johnson, Anthony Peckham, Guy Ritchie
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong
Genre: Action, Adventure, Mystery
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for intense sequences of violence and action, some startling images and a scene of suggestive material)
Official Website: Sherlock-Holmes-movie.com

Synopsis: Detective Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Watson must solve their latest case which involves a dark magician named Lord Blackwood, or the country and eventually the world… will suffer.

https://i0.wp.com/photogallery.filmofilia.com/data/media/36/sherlock_holmes_57.jpg

This movie was pretty much Scooby Do meets Cpt. Jack Sparrow meets The Prestige.

Which equals in a combination of 80% of a shitty movie which was saved by the ending. The acting of Rachel Mcadams along with her character was unbearable and unnecessary to the movie’s plot, and her relationship with Sherlock was SO FAKE. The bro-mance between Holmes and Winstone (or Watson, whatever) was WAY more believable (it was actually what saved the movie from Macadam’s atrocious performance)

https://i0.wp.com/www.aceshowbiz.com/images/still/sherlock_holmes21.jpg

Some of the stuff n it did not fit in a movie about Sherlock Holmes, but later this was explained. Nontheless it was annoying and ruined the first part, sure they explain it at the end… but meanwhile i was hating the fact that there was magic in it!

Sure the first half was shit, but the ending explained everything…. im still not sold. But the good parts saved it (and saved it well)

The comedy was great (the comedy canceled out the horrible music) the action was amazing (canceling out some poor acting) and it was overall a VERY fun movie, and pretty much what I paid 10 bucks to see.

So watch it if you already saw Avatar.

The Hurt Locker Blu-Ray Review

16 01 2010

http://mehtakyakehta.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/the_hurt_locker.jpg?w=107&h=167

James And Chris’ Avatar Review

19 12 2009

Before you read the review, here is me and Chris talking about it on our podcast below:

Here is the review:

https://i0.wp.com/www.iwatchstuff.com/2009/08/04/avatar-poster-neytiri.jpg

Release Date: December 18, 2009 (conventional 3D theaters and IMAX 3D)
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Director: James Cameron

Screenwriter: James Cameron
Starring: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver,
Genre: Action, Adventure
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking)
Official Website: Avatarmovie.com

Synopsis: A Marine is given orders to become an alien (Navi) in order to collect information from them to eventually take their resources. However after knowing them better, he realizes hes been in the wrong side all along.

I wont give too much because me and Chris will be doing a huge podcast about it, but heres my overall review:

https://i0.wp.com/mimg.ugo.com/200910/11824/cuts/4054023555-b99ef4f041_288x288.jpg

I will also not address the whole “This movie had such great CGI” or “The visuals were so great! “ because every review has said this. And I agree with it all.

I WILL say “youre a fucking idiot” to people saying “The story wasnt original” (South Park started this complaint, now every movie blog has been saying it, comparing it to Dancing With Wolves or “Smurfs”) because there is NO movie that has never gotten any ideas from anything, its just a fucking stupid thing to say. Pixar admitted that their movies arent as original as people tell them they are, for the same exact reason.

Also, I dont know what Slash Film is talking about the dialog being weak. The dialog was great.

https://i0.wp.com/www.digitaljournal.com/img/8/9/9/i/5/5/7/o/Avatar.jpg

There was one great mistake this movie made. The horrible advertising. There was NO way to live up to the hype. Do you remember how The Matrix changed fight scenes in movies? And how Transformers and Star Wars changed visual effects? And Airplane and other comedies changed comedy? Those movies NEVER set their bar so high they couldnt live up to it… they ALWAYS sneak up to you. And sure, Avatar will change lots of things, but it will NEVER live up to this: “MOVIES WILL NEVER BE THE SAME” or “BEST MOVIE EVER MADE. PERIOD”

https://i0.wp.com/www.treehugger.com/avatar-navi-blue-photo1.jpg

I loved this movie for all the reasons every other movie blog mentioned (you know them) but the things I loved the most is the great message at the end. Chris went with m and this is what he hated the most of it “It was too preachy” he said, and I agree. But the preaching was correct, and I agree with it. I loved this movie from beginning to end.

Our Podcast with me (James) and Chris covering the WHOLE movie review shall come tomorrow. so stay tuned.

https://i0.wp.com/screencrave.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/avatar-weaver-close-up09-8-251.jpg

And this movie was amazing, sentimental, action packed, and it REALLY gets you interested. Second best movie of the year (besides UP) I give it a 98% A+

The Dragon’s Review: Brothers

15 12 2009

Brothers is a film I’ve been looking forward to seeing for a while now. While the trailer looked like it gave a little too much of the plot away, it still captured my attention. So I got a chance to watch the film on the internet in actually good quality, and I got to say while it didn’t live up to my expectation, it’s still a solid, well-made film.

THE GOOD

Tobey Maguire has never been threatening to me or scary, I’ve always just thought of him as Spider-Man. But for those of you going into this film expecting that same sort of character, you’ll be surprised at how scary he becomes. His performance is incredible, and you don’t think of him as just a selfish asshole like the trailer states (we’ll get to more of that in a little bit).

In fact all the performances are great. You can care for all these characters, even in their rights or wrongs. Jake Gyllenhaal does a great job, and so does Natalie Portman. Sam Shepard isn’t in the film much, but whenever he’s onscreen, he fits in the role and does a damn good job. But the performance that stood out for me, even more than Maguire’s, was the performance of the two daughters in the film. It’s some of the best child acting you’ll ever see.

The trailer leads you to believe that when Maguire’s character comes back, that he’s pissed because he thinks his brother sleeped with his wife, but that’s not the case at all. He’s seen things and actually did things that are haunting him and that’s why he acts the way he does. And when you see what he does, you see why he goes kinda crazy. The whole film is very powerful and it makes you feel something in the end.

THE BAD

My biggest problem had to do with the story. The overall story and point isn’t bad, but the whole film I was thinking of ways it could have been done better. It doesn’t ruin the film, of course, but it still makes me think about how it could have been a lot more dramatic and frightening.

OVERALL

Brothers is not what I was hoping it would be, and it isn’t one of the best films of the year, but still it is a well-made film, with some of the best acting I’ve seen all year. Will it get any award nominations? It’s hard to say, but if it’s for anything, it’ll be for the actors like Tobey Maguire. I give Brothers an 8/10.

Ninja Assassin Review By James and Myo

28 11 2009

https://i0.wp.com/www.roots-magazine.com/loku/ninja-assassin-poster.jpgRelease Date: November 25, 2009
Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures
Director: James McTeigue
Screenwriter: Matthew Sand, J. Michael Straczynski
Starring: Rain, Naomie Harris, Ben Miles, Sho Kosugi, Rick Yune
Genre: Action
MPAA Rating: R (for strong bloody stylized violence throughout, and language)
Official Website: Ninja-Assassin-movie.com

Synopsis: A clan of assassin ninjas raise orphans and train them to honor the clan and kill as commanded, but one ninja sees the evil in this, leaves- and vows to fight against them.

http://thoughtsonfilms.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/ninja-assassin-rain_l.jpg?w=510

So our editor Myo and I went to see New Moon (he hasnt seen it, he loved it though) with the plan of theater hopping to Ninja Assassin after, and we did… we thought we would be seeing one good movie (New Moon) coming out extremely surprised to say we saw 2 great movies.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.

This is by far the best action movie I have ever seen. Well, it’s not the best action movie, it has the best action ive ever seen in any movie ever made. If you think 300 was hard-core, you have not seen what hard-core is, people. Rain who is the main character, blew my mind away. Rain, who is a Korean singer plays the Assassin, and he did an awesome job for a pop artist. After this movie i am 100% sure that every producer is going to have an eye on this guy. Ninja Assassin was his major theatrical hit. As for the movie, if you love blood, gore, and action wit a bad ass actor, this movie would not disappoint you. And yes There is a plot to the movie, which surprisingly amazed the heck out of me. Half of the scenes take place in Germany, so its really cool to see a ninja movie in Europe. But what i love the most was the twists and turns in the movie that will catch you off guard.

https://i0.wp.com/wwwimage.cbsnews.com/images/2009/11/23/image5752603.jpg

Its not the story thats its strengths, the plot is nothing great but i had low expectations for it till I saw the red band trailer.

There were by my count 14 fight scenes in this movie.

Im going to make a podcast dedicated to this movie, I will go into full detail about it there. Please go watch it now, it was amazing. As a movie it isnt anything big, but as an action movie- I fail to find better. I really have never seen a gorier movie in my entire life. The whole movei was filled with “OOHH!!!!”s and “JESUS!!!! JESUS CHRIST!!!!!” and a couple of gags from those weak stomached that threw up in their mouths.

I promise you, you will thank me if you werent going to watch it and I made you watch it from this positive review.

As a movie overall Ill give this a 75% C but as an action movie it gets a 100% A++++

NOTE: I will go into a detailed review on my podcast, it was really really great. Theres things about this movie that I MUST rant about. This is 100% rant material. (Yeah, it was that good)

http://theenderplay.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/pixar-up-new-stills1.jpg?w=372&h=208

Oh my god. I knew this movie would be good, but Jesus Christ was it beautiful. When I saw it in the theater I wept. So touching. And not only that but it has some great adventure scenes. But it was such a strong movie, really touching. So perfect. I wont comment much on the plot and on what happened in the story in this review, because I want to spoil nothing for those Under Rock Dwelers who havent seen the movie. But in a nutshell, some of the scenes in this movie were severe tear jerkers (the image above is one of them)

https://i0.wp.com/www.thebestthingsince.com/blog/blog_images/up_still.jpg

But not only that! But like in the image above, there are some HILARIOUSLY FUNNY scenes! Ah! I FAIL to find something wrong with this epic epic movie. I tip my hat, bow and say my kudos to Pixar for making yet another great movie. It so easily and almost effortlessly makes you cry in one secound and makes you laugh out loud the next… PLEASE: BUY THIS DVD.

So I know it ddnt have top notch action, and im an actin feak, so Im nt the guy that would give this a 100%…. but theres nothing wrong with it, and I would feel like a CRIMINAL if I dont giv it a perfect score. So, here is my well deserved 100 A+ to “UP”

Late Paranormal Activity Review

15 11 2009

Release Date: September 25, 2009 (limited; wide release: October 16)
Studio: Paramount Pictures
Director: Oren Peli
Screenwriter: Oren Peli
Starring: Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Mark Friedrichs, Amber Armstrong, Ashley Palmer
Genre: Drama, Supernatural Thriller
MPAA Rating: R (for language)
Official Website: Paranormalmovie
——————————————————————————————

Synopsis: A ghost or demon disturbs a woman from her childhood to her adulthood, and when she and her boyfriend live together, the boyfriend gets worried and attempts to stop the spirit and starts filming everything they do, hoping to get a glimpse of the ghost on tape.

I want to get this off my chest. This movie did not scare me at all. Not once. I was like “Okay, a scary scene is coming, here comes… here it goes…” never came. However, there was a scene that was a notch below “disturbing” when the girl gets dragged down the hallway.

Too boring at first, and it was never scary. The parts that were supposed to be scary were SO MINOR it was riddiculous. Like the sheets moving or the door closing. The story was NO EXPLAINED AT ALL. I know some people like saying “This movie had no plot” as an exageration, but REALLY: this movie had NO story. But this isnt a movie that should rely on the plot, but on the scares, which it failed at.

I wanted to hit the character of Marty (her boyfriend) he did the STUPIDEST shit i’ve ever seen a movie character ever do. I’ve neevr seen such poor decision making off a movie character in my life. Ever. Sure, it was part of the movie but- really? Would a human being REALLY go up the attic if a ghost is there? Or film the whole thing?

There is one major positive however, this movie had two IMMENSE “LMFAO” moments. When Marty says “I think I should by a Wigi Board” his girlfriend says no, and he still buys it, yes- a fucking WIGI BOARD! xD

And when the ghost expert comes in the house and says “Oh my, jesus christ, this is- i should get out of here as soon as possible…”

The two funny moments made this movie bearable so I say it deserves a solid 35% F-

Gojira Blu-Ray Review

25 10 2009

gojira-blu-ray-classic-mediaThank you for reading my review for the Blu-Ray version of “Gojira”, the original Japanese masterpiece.

The Film

“I can’t believe that Godzilla was the only surviving member of its species… But if we continue conducting nuclear tests… it’s possible that another Godzilla might appear somewhere in the world again”

Plot Synopsis: After atomic testing, Godzilla, a legendary creatures, is awakened, and brings havoc to Tokyo.

Short Version: “Gojira” is a MASTERPIECE, that Hollywood will NEVER be able to capture the true spirit of.

There is so much that I like about this film that’s its hard to begin. The plot of this film is really good, and has a dark tone to it. The love triangle between Emiko, Ogata, and Serizawa was very well done. The character of Dr. Yamane is probably the best character of the humans anyway. Yamane wants to study Godzilla, and find out why it was able to survive and absorb the radiation, while the others want to kill it. The soundtrack for this film is amazing, and is some of the greatest work of composer Akira Ifukube. The title monster is really iconic(it has 28 films don’t you know), and is an allegory to the nuclear bomb. The destruction the creature causes was an allusion to the destruction caused by the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The whole message that Yamane gave at the end about using nuclear weapons, and the possibility of another Godzilla appearing was really wonderful. The scene where Dr. Serizawa chose to kill himself so the oxygen destroyer won’t end up in the wrong hands was GREAT.This film is so great that there hasn’t been any Giant Monster movie that comes close to how great this is…..until 1999 when “Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris” was released. The best thing about this film is that you really get a sense of the power of Nuclear destruction in Godzilla’s rampage.

There is a noticeable difference between the puppet version of Godzilla’s head and that of the actual suit, but to it didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all.

The Blu-Ray
Audio/Video: The only audio it includes is the original Japanese track with English Subtitles. The video is presented in its original full-screen aspect, and with 1080i(interlaced). While its in its original aspect, they video is in some sort of box around the screen and doesn’t take up the entire screen. There are also NUMEROUS scratches and pops throughout the film, and it just shows that the film was restored at all. The audio is decent, and Godzilla’s roar sounds just as menacing as ever. But during the scene where the jets attack Godzilla the sound just pretty much becomes mute.

Making of the Suit Featurette: This is a cool look into how the Godzilla suit was made for the film.

Story Development Featurette: Takes an interesting look into how the story was developed.

Other features include an audio commentary and the original theatrical trailer.

I give the film a 5 out of 5.

I give the Blu-Ray a 1 out of 5.

Overall: 6 out of 10: While the film itself is extraordinary, the Blu-Ray is very lacking when compared to it previous release on Standard DVD. The release doesn’t even come with the Americanized version(Godzilla, King of the Monsters), even though it could have been easily inserted. The release is also lacking any new features to it. If you were to buy this film, I would recommend you buy the standard release for the film.

Bleach: Fade To Black Review

25 10 2009

Bleach-Fade-to-Black-I-Call-Your-NameThank you for reading my review of “Bleach: Fade To Black”.

“I shall erase your existence”

Short version: This is a great film that shows the relationship between Ichigo and Rukia, as well as how important the character is.

Plot Synopsis: After an explosion that covers about 30% of the Seriettei, Ichigo goes to Soul Society to investigate and finds that everyone there doesn’t remember him or Rukia.

What I liked: The film has a great story to it. I kow a lot of people will say that the whole idea of the villains only wanting to be named is lame, yes even I have thought that. But, if you think about the villains used to live in the Rukongi are of Soul Society, and something as small as a name would be very important to them. The “I want to take vengance on Soul Society” storyline is kind of used her, but unlike the previous films there hatred is misplaced. The female villain is just freakin crazy. And dark Rukia is definitely my favorite of the villains in all three films. Actually she is probably my favorite villain PERIOD. Dark Rukia is just brutal in her attacks. She was also powerful enough to break one of Byakuya’s binding spells. Most of the characters are used greatly in this film, even Kon has his moments. One of the best scenes in the film was when Ichigo lost hope in bringing back Rukia, but Kon of all characters was the one who gave him hope again. And there was also a scene later on in the film in which Kon is crying to Ichigo to save Rukia. My favorite female character, Soi-fon and Yoruichi do have more screen time in this film. Even Urahara participates in the final battle, and shows why hes a bad ass. And Head-Captain Yamamoto is as cold and bad ass as ever.

What I disliked: Kenpachi wasn’t really as bad ass in this film as he was in the previous two. And Chad, Ishida, and Orihime aren’t in the film. Hell, they aren’t even mentioned at all. They could have slipped at least a cameo where Ichigo asks if they have forgotten about Rukai because they to are close to her. Hell, Ururu, Jinta, and Tessai at least got cameos. Only most of the reaccuring characters like Renji, Byakuya, and others are given a good amount of screentime. However, characters like Hitsugaya, Matsumoto, Izuru are redused to mere cameos. While I loved watching Ichigo fight Dark Rukia, There was another battle against a Giant Tentacled Monster involving the captains wasn’t as intense as the battle in the previous film.

I give the film a 3.5 out of 5. While I didn’t not enjoy this film as much as the previous. This film is definitely worth checking out.

Oh, and heres a video to show you just how bad ass Dark Rukia is. I don’t suggest watching the entire video if you don’t want the movie spoiled:

Where The Wild Things Are Review

17 10 2009

SCORE: 4/10

Ok, so I was expecting this movie to be a masterpiece really. It looks amazing, and really imaginative. I’m sorry to say..but it was kind of sloppy. The only thing that drawed me to see it was the whole “imagination of a child” thing. But..it really was all over the place. One minute they were fighting, one minute there was peace, one minute they were playing around, it was done poorly. It really was. It starts of interesting then quickly lost my interest…the MINUTE he got to the island. Yeah, the graphics are good but come on..this is a very very sloppy…mess.

Horribly disappointed here, but there are some good things. The ending to be exact. I thought it was a great ending to a bad film. The ending is just beautiful, and the only thing that kept me from hating this. Perfect ending, really bad film.

It’s also kind of a quick ending. It turns from a great ending to BOOM it’s over. I’m like..”ok?”. So yes, Where The Wild Things looked amazing, but in my opinion is not a very good movie, saved by a marvelous ending. I know, I’m really shocked too. It did have some imaginative moments though, but overall just disappointing.

https://i0.wp.com/screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/law-abiding-citizen-reviews.jpg

OH MY GOD. Quoting Gerald Butler “It’s gonna be Biblical” and it WAS. This movie, was the most amazing “prisoner in jail” movie experience Ive EVER had. Imagine every single character from every movie that was about escaping Alcatras combine their brains with Jason Bourne’s skills. THAT was Gerald Butler’s character. SO godlike! I am amazed at how ungodly they made this movie. This was the only time in my whole entire LIFE that I EVER stood up in the MIDDLE of the movie and clapped. Sure, after the movie if it was good, maybe before it if the movie was something I have greatly anticipated (such as the first Transformers and Iron-Man) but never in the middle of the movie.

https://i0.wp.com/blogs.creativeloafing.com/theclog/files/2009/10/filmlaw2review.jpg

The tension that Gerald Butler’s character had between Jamie Fox’s character was phenomenal, it was very strong and deliberate, this is a GREAT heist movie, well it is not “heist” movie but there are scenes in it, that make it like a heist movie and they’re SO GOOD! I can NOT counjer up words that could ever tell how amazing and genius it was.

UNFORTUNATELY.

The last 5 minutes of this movie were SO natural and normal, like a regular movie ending. It was NOT a bad movie ending, but not an ending that would fit such a GODLIKE movie. It was in no shape or form predictable, it was not bad- but since it was SUCH a “Biblical” movie…. the ending seemed so measly. It deserved an ending as shocking as “The Others” and thats what the movie makes the audience WANT and NEED but it does not give it. That is the only flaw of the movie.

https://i0.wp.com/moviesmedia.ign.com/movies/image/article/102/1024614/law-abiding-citizen-20090914044611101_640w.jpg

Perfect movie, but I am so disapointed that the last 5 minutes were only 80% good, I cant give it a perfect score. It was a great ending. But GREAT means SHIT in this movie, THATS how good the first 95% of this movie was.

For the ending alone, I will have to give it only a 91% A- because it was not the beginning, which I could have disregarded, but the ENDING. Which I cannot emphesize how litle it lived up to this epic, epic movie. PLEASE watch this movie!

Review: Gamer.

5 01 2010

Gamer
Director: Mark Neveldine,Brian Taylor
Cast: Gerard Butler, Amber Valletta, Michael C. Hall, Kyra Sedgewick, Logan Lerman, Alison Lohman, Terry Crews, Ludacris, Aaron Yoo.

Synopsis: Set in a future-world where humans can control other humans in mass-scale,multi-player online gaming environments, a star player (Butler) from a game called “Slayers” looks to regain his independence while taking down the game’s mastermind (Hall).

I loved the trailer and was really looking forward to it. But the trailer made it look like Death Race minus the cars which was pretty much about escaping prison. But Gamer basically starts after Butler’s character escapes prison. There is a good story to the movie which was flawed but enjoyable.

You think: Butler was badass in 300? Terry Crews is better at comedy? Alison Lohman is good as a cute girl? Think again. Butler belongs in action genre. This movie made me completely fall in love with his acting talent. Every time he was beating up Terry Crews’s character, I clapped. Logan Lerman nailed the role of Simon. And Michael C.Hall played the crazy-ass villain and he was awesome.

The action sequences were soooo cool[except… I’m coming at that point]. I mean, cars flying, people getting their heads blown, blood splattering everywhere, it was just gory and gruesome trashy fun.

There was a ridiculous scene near the end of the movie which was so ridiculous that it was fun. Y’all might have heard about it as the Michael C. Hall dance number. I knew nothing about it and ended loving it. I especially loved the ending which was kinda after this scene.

The soundtrack was amazing.

The movie tried to be funny in a Neveldine/Taylor way which worked for both Crank movies but for this one, not so much. I even thought the scenes were annoying at times.

But my biggest problem with the movie was, during the action sequences the camera was so shaky that it felt like somebody was chasing the camera-man with a damn machete when he was filming the damn thing. Don’t get me wrong, the action sequences were great but it had potential of being better which was destroyed by shaky camera.

I’m against rapper getting movie roles[except, Eminem, Mos Def].So, Ludacris was aweful in Max Payne, bearable in Rock N’ Rolla and the 12 steps backwards in Gamer. Just unbearable.

I know people like Kyra Sedgewick but I just don’t see anything good about her.

Overall, I loved Gamer more than I thought I would. The good things outshined the bad and ended up as a fun action flick which was a little more than just “mindless action” movie. I don’t care what everyone thinks about the score but I’ll give it a 8 out of 10.

Drag Me To Hell DVD Review

15 10 2009

http://screener.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/drag-me-to-hell-poster.jpg?w=107&h=160

Release Date: May 29, 2009
Studio: Universal Pictures
Director: Sam Raimi
Screenwriter: Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi
Starring: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Jessica Lucas, David Paymer, Dileep Rao
Genre: Horror
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for sequences of horror violence, terror, disturbing images and language)
Official Website: DragMetoHell.net

Synopsis: A 200 year old hag is struck with furious anger after an innocent girl announces her that the bank is throwing her out of her house. So the lady curses the girl, instead of the bank owner- thus initiating the most excruciating 2 fucking hours I’ve ever had while watching a movie, fuck my life.

Thank you for checking out this DVD “review” since this movie just came out on DVD this week.

http://witneyman.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/drag-me-to-hell.jpg?w=303&h=228

Oh. My God. Let me start off by saying that this is by far the worst movie I have ever seen. No, not Epic Movie or any spoof, why? because those are aimed at dumb teenagers, and theyre supposed to be retarded, so I don’t mind them- theyre just not my cup of tea… they greatly succeed at drawing fans who like that type of shit. But this made the mistake of calling itself a “comedy” and a “horror”. I know this is Sam Raimi’s movie, and the whole “Oh, but this is his style” bullshit is NOT an excuse. This and 10,000 B.C. are the two worst movies I have EVER seen. And let me tell you right now, this one was way worse. What surprises me is the positive reviews this is getting!

http://zgene.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/drag_me_to_hell_choke2.jpg?w=307&h=204

This movie was no spoof, no joke, it really tried to be scary (and failed) it also tried to be funny but ended up being fucking stupid. The movie’s first scary scene is about a freaking HANDKERCHIEF jumping at your face, yes a HANKIE!! Oh! Beware the hunted hankie!!

Then we see a full grown fucking woman get her ass beat by a dead deceased lady, who’s face and vagina have probably so many wrinkles that both look about the same. Why would she curse the innocent girl if the bank is the oe with the faulty system? Its the bank that’s forcing their workers to decline their clients (and i can go into the politics version of this to PROVE that its the companies fault and not the girl, but I won’t) but the “villain” of the movie decides to curse the girl who tries to get her house back for her but also gets denied. Then in the parking lot fight scene she pulls out a brick out of her sleeve to break into a car (sigh)

https://i0.wp.com/static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Film/Pix/pictures/2009/5/28/1243524288264/Scene-from-Drag-Me-to-Hel-001.jpg

Theres a part in which blood is vomited is GALLONS (and she turns out to be just fine) there is a sene in which a goat talks and is possessed by Satan, the “jumpy scary scenes” looked like they where made to scare retarded children, the comedy seemed to only insult me as I had a confused look on my face because I failed to point out the scary and the funny parts. They show the scary demon thats supposed to be the main villain dancing salsa on top of a burning table at the end, which was THE DUMBEST FUCKING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN. This movie is very pleasing, if youre mentally challenged, enjoy watching Van Diesel movies, and are Communist

[The only part I liked of this movie was Justin Long, because hes a MAC and he’s cool. But that will be canceled out by a huge mistake this movie made (im getting to that)]

https://i0.wp.com/img.timeinc.net/time/daily/2009/0905/drag_me_to_hell_0520.jpg

BUT. THIS MOVIE MADE ONE HUGE MISTAKE!!!

Beware this will sound like me trying to make a joke, it isn’t- this is a true soft spot for me, it is something that greatly disturbs me.

In the middle of the movie, there is a part in which a kitten is stabbed to death, I stood up and squeaked out of shock. I am 100% OBSESSED WITH CATS. Everyone that knows me knows that I would give my own life for a beautiful, cuddly, lovely kitten <3<3<3 I was SO PISSED at this scene. I mean, I get it, I fucking get it, Sam Raimi likes making stupid movies to please dumb people that like gore and dumb spoof movie-class humor.

But there’s NO need to kill a cat on screen. My soul could never be worth one million kitten lives. I cannot stand even remembering that scene.

This movie deserves nothing but a -100% F-

And for all fo you fucking wise asses that are going to say “Oh but thats not an actual percentage, I’ll give it a 0% F-
And I know that most of you disagree with this review, and that is completely okay, it is all about opinions =] I just personally hated this movie. So what did you think of this movie? Have you seen it yet?

Let The Right One In Review

13 10 2009

https://i0.wp.com/www.firstshowing.net/img2/lettherightonein-poster-fullsize.jpgRelease Date: October 24, 2008 (limited)
Studio: Magnet Releasing (Magnolia Pictures)
Director: Tomas Alfredson
Screenwriter: John Ajvide Lindqvist
Starring: Kare Hedebrant, Lina Leandersson
Genre: Drama, Horror, Romance
MPAA Rating: R (for some bloody violence including disturbing images, brief nudity and language)
Official Website: LettheRightOneinmovie.com

Synopsis: A young lonely child that is bullied in school has a dark, violent soul… when his neighbor sees this, she finds out that he is perfect for what she is looking for, after they become friends, he realizes that she is a vampire- but his love towards her outweighs his fear- as he finds out that she is the right one for him as well.

OskarandEliJungleJim.jpg "Let the Right One In" - Oskar and Eli Jungle Jim image by kalgon

This is a Swedish movie, and I was waiting for it to come out in theaters- but when I realized my theater would never play it, I made a vow to buy it on DVD and review it.

This is the very best vampire movie ever made. It is not my favorite, The Twilight Saga is, but this one is BETTER. In fact, I’m Transylvanian so I’ve seen all Holloween related movies, and all Vampire movies- and I can vouch for the fact that this is the best Vampire movie ever made. Now- it’s not a horror, it’s not going to scare the fuck out of you… and it doesnt have sick action scenes like Underworld and New Moon does.. but the romance and the story are so genius that it deserves the tittle.

What I really love about this movie is that it doesn’t linger on the fantasy vampire world, it concentrates more on why Eli is with Oscar, and people usually figure out why about 2 days after they watch the movie. Some get it right away, to some it doesnt come as quickly, the movie is genius. The fact that vampires are real is but the subplot of the story, make no mistake about it, this is mostly a story about Eli and Oskar.

http://priscillaeyles.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/lettherightonein-21.jpg?w=413&h=258

Their romance is perfect, amazing. And it felt SO TRUE. Never in my life have I watched a movie and been so convinced the romance was as real as it was this time. And not only that, but after a while, you UNDERSTAND why they are so right about each other. There are scenes in which I gasped at the amount of love coming out of them, care would be another word. One of those scenes is after she eats a cookie, or after he says out loud “NO! You can come in!” there were way more but those two come to mind. No words can express how perfect they made their love feel.

http://nickmilne.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/eli12.jpg?w=405&h=212

Eli was awesome, the playground scenes where SO perfect, and then the character changes so drastically when she speaks to her old guardian about not being fed. She is also so creepy sometimes… And Oskar is also perfect- everything he does is in some way relating to Eli, shes perfect for him and after he finds out shes a vampire he disregards this and still is obsessed with her, ready to do anything for her.

the BEST THING about this movie, what really truly made it perfect is the little things, there are scenes that are SO MINUSCULE that theyre easy to miss…like when Eli explains to Oskar how to solve ana rubix cube, he stares at her with a puzzled look on his face instead of her hands holding the cube, this only happens for half a second, but it happens. There are like 40 scenes like this, that are only a split second long and are part of a long scene, but they show how erfect Oskar’s character goes along with Eli’s.

https://i0.wp.com/14.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_korr513Zkk1qziyd9o1_500.png

Overall, I think it would be a crime if I don’t give this movie an A+, 97% to be exact. The best vampire movie EVER. Please check it out, if youre into movies like me…you must see it. Must see for movie fans. AND- if you love romances like I do (my favorite genre) you MUST SEE THIS. This isn’t a fake pathetic “Titanic” romance.

Zombieland Review

11 10 2009

http://sushiwhore.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/zombieland-poster1.jpg?w=166&h=231Release Date: October 2, 2009
Studio: Columbia Pictures (Sony)
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Screenwriter: Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick
Starring: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin
Genre: Comedy, Horror
MPAA Rating: R (for zombie horror violence/gore and language)
Official Website: Zombieland.com

Synopsis- After all of humanity is turned into zombies by a virus- a phobic, play-it-safe, wimpy dude who is still normal finds a badass, Twinkie obsessed man who loves killing zombies, after a while they grow closer and weather it’s zombie killing, Twinkie hunting or road tripping… they make the perfect duo.

https://i0.wp.com/www.hugazombie.com/images/user_generated/full/Zombieland2sm.jpg

So the first trailer for this movie, wasn’t that great- I didn’t really want to see it but after a while…. it grew on me and once opening day came, it hit me that I had to see this. So I couldn’t last weekend, but I did today. Especially the things people have said about this movie, it’s getting a great buzz… and the cameo rumor gets me…. I am a fucking SUCKER for cameos in comedies, its my thing, i go banana sandwich over funny cameos.

So Ill start off by saying that Jesse Eisenberg is NOT Michael Cera. NO NO NONO. no. I thought he would be, but in this movie he (thank god) proved he wasn’t Cera. His role was splendid, and he nailed it. This movie was shockingly emotional at times, and it was legitimately scary at some scenes… which was a great extra, because it was thoroughly funny from beginning to end as well.

https://i0.wp.com/www.dreadcentral.com/img/news/jun09/zombieland.jpg

Woody Harrelson was AWESOME. The killings where not only gore, no- they where SMART which made them cool as shit. The fact that he had 3000 guns and made weapons out of gardening tools, made him awesome….. his face expressions where also ace. And they didnt just make him funny and badass, they went the extra mile…. not only was his character emotional (which explained why he was a badass) he was charismatic…especially the way he way he liked twinkies… and a lot of more things.

There where 3 scenes, that KILLED ME, I could NOT stop laughing. One had to do with a clown, one had to do with Twinkies, and the other was about one of the “rules” Jesse Eisenbergs characters have, and how the rules that are introduce get funnier through the movie.

https://i0.wp.com/1.bp.blogspot.com/_z4PHzwTy93U/SmnRql4_aXI/AAAAAAAAAC4/E0AiqSUSJFE/s400/Zombieland+Little+Zombie+Girl.jpg

I hate nitpicking, but I do it…because when it comes to movies… I have SEVERE Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This movie has like 20 scenes that made me go like “NO! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, Why ______ when you can _____???!!??!?” There where a couple of scenes in which they did something people would never do if the world was filled with zombies. Its like youre in a vampire movie, and you throw the guns away and start throwing apples at them. Makes no sense.

So overall I give this movie a 87% B+ for being what it was supposed to be (comedy, and it was funny as SHIT) and going the extra mile. The famous person cameo, i have to stress, was awesome. So check it out NOWWWW!!!!!!!!

Heres the trailer =]

Bleach: DiamondDust Rebellion DVD Review

9 10 2009

Bleach_Diamond_Dust_Rebellion_by_AsThank you for reading my review for the DVD of “Bleach: DiamondDust Rebellion”.

The Film

Short Version: This is probably one of the best anime films I’ve ever seen. It has great action, great score, and great characters.

Plot Synopsis: After the “Oiun” is stolen from a caravan by a former classmate of Hitsugaya’s, he goes into hiding to find and kill the offender.

This film is without a doubt one of the greatest anime films I’ve seen. What he first film did wrong, this film does right. What was done right in the first film, it was done right again in this one, but even better. I really liked the action in this film A LOT. Seriously, this film has just some great action in it. The scene where Kusaka(the villain) transforms into a dragon, and then Kenpachi just charges at him was FUCKING AWESOME. You even get an epic battle that involves the whole 13 Court Guard Squad, and yes even Head Captain Yamamotto fights. The drama with Hitsugaya wanting to take on the his burden alone was done greatly. Kusaka, the villain, was great, and you could really pity the character. Kusaka also comes off as cold when he kills his subordinates, the arrancar chicks. The score in this film was great, it even seemed dark in a couple of scenes. The story serves more like a mystery, which was nice. The main thing I liked was that you got more interaction with the other characters, unlike the first film. Chad and Ishida actually fight in this film(albeit briefly). My favorite scene(s) would have to be when Kenpachi charges at Kusaka, and when Soi-fon and Yoruichi fight. Also, you get to see Ichigo don his Hollow mask, but that only lasts for one moment. Hitsugaya in my opinion is one the most overrated characters in the Bleach universe, but he was just awesome in this film.

bleachmovie2-10Hitsugaya vs. Kusaka

The only thing I didn’t like was the whole “I’m gonna take vengeance on Soul Society” storyline, which I feel has been over-used.

The DVD

Audio/Video: The audio is presented with 5.1 and 2.0 tracks for both English and Japanese. The video looks GREAT, and the animation is just wonderful. The audio is good, but I felt the need to adjust the volume on my TV for more enjoyment.

Making of Bleach The Movie 2: This feature comes with several chapters on the making of the film. It includes Studio-Photography and FX, Interview with the director and character designer, interview with background artists, a look into how the score was composed, and an interview with Sambomaster.

Production Art Gallery: Gives a look at some cool art.

The Disc also includes the original Japanese Promos, a movie pamphlet that tells you everything you need to know, and a slip case to finish things off.

I give the film a 5 out of 5

I give the DVD a 4 out of 5

Overall: 9 out of 10: The film is definitely one of the greatest anime films I’ve seen, and was a whole lot of fun to watch. The DVD was a bit lacking when compared to what you got with the first film. The case was just your ordinary plastic case with a slip case, unlike the first film you got some sort of flip book.

Dont Buy Monsters vs Aliens On DVD

21 09 2009

You could say this is a review…but mostly, its a warning.

I understand that the DVD of this movie comes out in a couple of days, so i would like to warn you all about it before you think about buying it. Unless you have a son or a younger someone that loves animated movies, in which case, its totally cool- this movie was made for the little ones anywho. I didnt wanna see it, my brother dragged me in, and i refused at first- but, I always like checking out non-Pixar animated movies just to see how much they suck.

https://i0.wp.com/static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Film/Pix/pictures/2009/3/26/1238068415584/Monsters-vs.-Aliens-001.jpg

So its no news that I’m a huge Pixar fan- In fact, every one that’s ever written for this blog would easily agree that Pixar rules and are one of the best (if not the best) movie company, and apart from Shrek and Kung Fu Panda (Which where averagely Okay), I hate every animated movie from DreamWorks and this one is no exeption. This movie kicks off with a meteor hitting a woman and giving her superpowers, which will eventually help her fight extraterrestrials along with a group of monsters who are all, with the exeption of The Missing Link (an amphibian-like monster) extremely lame.

The only interesting character of the whole movie was The Missing Link and he ended up knocked out half the movie leaving the rest of the monsters, who were all useless, doing all the fighting against the Aliens.

https://i0.wp.com/ngepress.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/monsters-vs-aliens.jpg

The main thing that bugs me about DreamWorks Animations is that they always cast such big budget stars for animated movies. Why do you need Reese Witherspoon and Seth Rogen in your movie? You can just cast someone that sounds just like them! Of course they want their names on the credits but I still think its a waste of money, what bugs me the most is that they always make the characters look like the actors that are doing the voices. Just like B.O.B. looks exactly like Seth Rogen or Will Smith looks exactly like the fish from Shark Tale (And every character from Kon Fu Panda)

This annoyed me throughout the whole movie and I was anoyed leaving the theatre after a couple of boob jokes, burp jokes and of course they had sexual innuendo, yup…the usual dreamworks stuff. The fight scenes were boring and the skating on cars scene was awful. Stephen Colbert has a scene with a piano that almost made me leave the theater but overall Stephen was funny, in fact he was probably the funniest character of the whole movie. (with his two funny lines)

https://i0.wp.com/3.bp.blogspot.com/_HlMFfJAjK_I/SdhbZkyaDwI/AAAAAAAAAns/2slDNlG-d0Y/s320/Susan.jpg

At the end of the movie they did have a pretty cool fight scene, and when they werent doing stupid comedy they did nail some good jokes so overall I would give this movie a 50% F

My little brother loved it and he wants to watch it again so I would say kids would like to see it but I should have gone to State of Play instead, which was playing in theaters at the time being.

Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection DVD Review, Part 2: “The H-Man”

3 09 2009

cover_tnThank you for reading part 2 of DVD Review of “Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection”.

The Film

Short Version: “The H-Man” is weird, but fun film. And while not the best Toho film its still certainly a classic.

Plot Synopsis: After a narcatics deal goes bad, the police launch an investigation of a mysterious death of one of the suspects. What they find is a creature that melt the human body, and multiply.

The Good: The scenes in which the creature melts people was cool to watch. There is one cool scene in which the H-Man walks through a person, then melts him. The English cast does a good job, and fits the characters. The only voice actor that didn’t work for me was Dr. Masada. The characters of Dr. Masada, Miyashita, and Taguchi were great. The film also features gangsters who smuggle drugs which is something not commonly seen in Toho films. That doesn’t make the film better at all, but it is nice to see something different in a Toho film. The side story with the cops going after the smugglers was interesting, and didn’t distract from the H-man. The best part about this film is how that we aren’t told exactly how the creature can to be. The only explanation is given about the character is how takes on the shape of a man. If this wasn’t enough to help you enjoy the film, then perhaps knowing there are scenes in which of alot of beautiful Japanese girls dancing half naked will.

The Bad: The character of Chikako Arai was just annoying, and took away from the enjoyment of the film sometimes. While I liked the character of The H-Man, it was somewhat of a rip-off of the The Blob. And even some of the scenes in which the character killed were reminicent of The Blob. The music by Matsuro Sato was pretty cheesy. Theres a storyline where “The scientists are rigt, but the police don’t believe them” is used like in most sci-fi films. The special effects were kind of distracting in a bad way, but come on it was made in 1958.

The DVD

Audio/Video: Comes with an English 2.0 Mono and Japanse 2.0 Mono track with subtitles. The video was given a good transfer considering the film was made in the late 1950s. The film is also presented in 2.35:1 or Tohoscope as its called.

As with the previous disc theres a commentary track by Ed Godziszewski and Steve Ryfle, and some previous, but nothing special. The DVD does come with both the American version and the original Japanese version which was nice.

The Film: 3.5 out of 5
The DVD: 2 out of 5

Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection DVD Review, Part 1: “Battle In Outer Space”

2 09 2009

cover_tnThank you for reading my part 1 of my review of “Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection”.

The Film

Short Version: This is your typical Toho science fiction film, except with a cheesy score, and bad dubbing.

Plot Synopsis: The nations of the Earth unite in a common cause to fight off The Natal Aliens from outer space.

The Good: The score for the intro of the film is just awesome. The film starts off pretty slow, but after 30 minutes gets really good. The battles in the film are fun to watch. The final battle between the Natal aliens and the Earth was just awesome. The English cast fit well with the characters. If your a fan of Toho then you’ll see that Eiji Tsuburaya does a great job on the special effects of his films, and this is no different. The Mothership is just badass. There is a scene during the final battle in which the mothership makes its way to earth and just unleashes a huge beam that destroys everything “Independence Day” style.

The Bad: The intro score was good, but the rest of the film was just cheesy, and pretty irritating. While fitting the characters the dubbing was cheesy. In fact one of the characters gives one of the worst lines ever: “I blew up the ship, but I was under the control of the aliens. Please forgive me”….or something of that matter. There was one useless character, Etsuko, who was just there to get attacked by the aliens and for a love interest. The aliens themselves look like a bunch of midget teletubies that sound like mice. The Natal aliens never give a reason for them attacking the earth other than your classic Sci-Fi scenerio where they just want to conquer for no reason at all. The Mothership is your ordinary round saucer, and nothing special.

The DVD

Audio/Video: Comes with an English and Japanse track with dubtitles which is something Tri-Star is notorious for with their Godzilla releases. The video was given a good transfer considering the film was made in 1965. The film is also presented in 2.35:1 or Tohoscope as its called.

Aside from a a commentary track by Ed Godziszewski and Steve Ryfle there are NO other special features to this disc. The DVD does come with both the American version and the original Japanese version which was nice.
The Film: 2.5 out of 5

The DVD: 2 out of 5

This is usually where I give an overall rating, but since this is just part 1 of 3, I will do that on Part 3.

The same technology that killed us threats the lives of these 9 creations, as they fight for survival, and figure out the purpose of their excistense.

WOW. I did it, I saw 9 on opening day like I’ve been planning for like ten months…pretty much ever since I saw the first trailer. And the hype I had for this was IMMENSE. Ive been waiting for this movie with the biggest anticipation, well- did this movie deliver? Did it live up to my, and everyone else’s hype? YES.

Let me start off by saying that this movie is NOT your little sisters Pixar film. No, I walked in expecting an action packed movie with the same story used over and over (Manking is doomed because of robots?? CLICHE!!!) but i was DEAD WRONG.

This movie goes BEYOND action, sure, the action was splendid- but this movie is sad (I cried a little at the end) it has a FANTASTIC message, a GREAT moral, the story goes way beyond this cliche ^^^ it delivers a message that we all must learn from, and yes. Its entertaining.

The character and charisma from each and every one of the “dolls” is ace, theyre all so amazing, and from the VERY FIRST SCENE you feel attadched to them. Not all the dolls are good and nice, some are actually douche-ish…their character is extremely diverse and fascinating.

The villains where SCARY. And not just cool…they took it to another level, theyre EVIL and TWISTED. CREEPY. I dont want to spoil anyhting but….they do some gross and sick shit…just wrong. They get really creative with human and doll corpses. BADASS.

The only flaws I can find are that this movie has no humor at all (one funny line, but it was after a sick scene and it was a shocking scene so the funny line was kinda…twisted “you owe me a cape”) and for little kids that want a childish funny movie itll be dissapointing. And also, but i am SO NITPICKING…THIS SHOULDN’T EVEN COUNT: Theyre YEARS in the future…so why are there cars from the 80’s and war helmets from world war 2? The materials just looked old…since humans died out like at 2080. But this is so irrelevant.

I give this movie a 97% A+

I RECOMEND THIS MOVIE. STRONGLY.

Here is the short film its based after =]

X-Men Origins: Wolverine DVD Review

21 09 2009

wolverineRelease Date: May 1, 2009
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Director: Gavin Hood
Screenwriter: David BenioffSkip Woods
Starring: Hugh JackmanLiev SchreiberRyan ReynoldsTaylor Kitsch,Will.i.am
Genre: Action, Thriller
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for intense sequences of action and violence, and some partial nudity)
Official Website: X-MenOrigins.com

Synopsis– A young boy (Wolverine) discovers he has freakishly long claws that come out of his knuckles, after killing his dad at a very young age, he runs away with his brother (Sabertooth), who has similar powers. Together they go through many generations of wars since they don’t age and are later recruited into a group of mutants lead by a man who personally hates mutants. After this, a series of events lead Wolverine angry for revenge after he figures out that mutants are being used as an science rats and is lead to believe his girl friend was murdered.

So it’s no news that I liked this movie, but it did have it’s negatives as well. I loved the opening scene that shows Wolvie and Vick running through a timeline of war, it was splendid. In fact, its been rumored that Captain Americas shield is hidden there somewhere as an easter egg while Sabertooth and Logan run through WW2. The fight scenes where fantastic, Sabertooth was awesome, and he was truly cool when he prowled on all fours. This movie didn’t lack action, and it wasn’t too long, so its a good DVD. Cyclops was also pretty cool in the two and half scenes hes in.

This movie does a good job of portraying Deadpool, which is something most people dont get. And the last fight scene was fantastic. Gambit was perfect, he was in two good fight scenes, which was more then enough for his character. My complaints where: The bathroom scene in which Wolvies claws look fake and there wasnt enough blood. Other then that, it was all am X-Men movie should be.

So I recommend this movie to most, unless youre looking for an Oscar movie or great acting. I give this movie an 84% B

What do you guys think of this movie?

Julie and Julia Review

30 08 2009

Hello everyone, thank you for checking out my J&J review!

Now, this movie is about a government worker who decides to cook through a famous cooking book written by Julia Child while blogging about her process, it also shows the life of Julia Child at the same time and how she came to write her famous book.

Ill start by saying that Meryl Streep was amazing- she was funny and extremely charismatic. Easily the best part of the movie. Like any good movie- it had characters that where easy to become attached to. Meryl’s character did this, and so did Amy Adam’s (not as much) The rest of the characters, on the other hand (with the exception of Julia’s husband) where weak and unconvincing.

Both Julia and Julie had terrific talent and they where stuck in a shitstorm of bad luck. Julia, obviously had the most talent, but her friends where COMPLETELY useless with the exception of her husband, who was for the most part- somewhat cooperative. Her friends did give her 2 good pieces of advice but the rest was followed by a hailstorm of ignorance. I wont spoil much but her friends where extremely unappreciative, and no one really was (Until she started her own goddamn show on TV)

Julie had a pathetic excuse of a boss who had the intelligence range of a spoon, the people she had to talk to everyday where borderline ludicrous and her husband was a dick. OH my gosh this guy was a joke. I mean- if you where to put him next to must guys he’d be considered a nice guy, but…i remember being awestruck at 4 things he said to her. In four different occasions he said something SO unbelievably cave-men like that I couldn’t believe Julie didn’t thrust a book through his pancreas.

There was a scene in which something bad happens and he leaves, and she begs him to come back and he wont even talk back to her, then after like a month he decides to come back and this is what he says “So like….whats for dinner?” and she shockingly smiles with tearful eyes and takes him back. That was the part in which she was supposed to stab him in the balls with a sharpie.

I dont know how these women went through this without slashing their wrists- which I would have most definitively done. Kudos to them.

It wasn’t a masterpiece but it was better then i thought it would be, it was actually great- i LOVED Maryl Streep, she was out the door charismatic. I wish she was my grandma. This movie did a TERRIFIC job of truly capturing how talented she was.

For this- I give this movie a 87% B+ and I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone, its not for all, but I loved it.

NOTE!

Please for the love of God, EAT before you watch this movie!

“Bleach: Memories of Nobody” DVD Review

17 08 2009

2255449Thank you for checking out my review for the film “Bleach: Memories of Nobody” and the DVD. Its been a couple of weeks since I did one so I decided to review this film.

The Film:

Short Version: “Bleach: Memories of Nobody” is a fun animated feature with great characters , little action, but lots of emotion thats non-cannon to the original story line of the manga/anime.

Plot Synopsis: The story takes place after the events in the Soul Society Rescue Arc(you will know what I’m talking about if you read the manga or watch the anime), and is non-cannon to the original storyline. In Karakura Town, unidentifiable spirits begin appearing en mases. While attempting to deal with these strange souls, Ichigo Kurosaki(voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch in the English dub ) and Rukia Kuchiki(voiced by Michelle Ruff) meet Senna(voiced by G.K. Bowes) , a mysterious shinigami(Soul Reaper) who wipes out most of them. Senna refuses to answer any questions, so Ichigo is forced to follow her while Rukia tries to find out what’s going on. In the end he finds a plot to destroy the human world and the Soul Society by some old Shiningami that were banished thousands of years ago.

SennaSenna

I was really expecting to hate this film based on the footage and trailers I’ve seen, but ended up loving this movie quite alot. The character of Seena was probably the best part about this film. She is probably the most interesting of the new characters. The villians set out to destroy the world which isn’t very original, but the way they do is really cool. The film could have used some more action, but what was given was good. Most of the fans favorite characters return. The English voice cast was the same aside from Senna and The Dark Ones, and were really great. The ending of this film for me was one of the best and most emotional scenes in the film. The animation looks very well done.
Be sure and stay after the credits to see a great stinger.

The Dark Ones, the new villiansThe Dark Ones, the new villians

The DVD

Audio/Video: The disc comes with a 5.1 and 2.0 for both English dub track and Japanese track. It also features a commentary by the English voice actors. The video looks solid, and the animation is just awesome.

Behind the scenes: Inside Bleach the Movie: This feature basicly goes behind the scenes(duh) with the voice actors, and talks about their experience working on the film. It also looks into translating the Japanese dialogue into English.

Japanese Staff Interview: The film gives an interview with the Japanese Production Staff.

The second disc aslo includes US and Japanese trailers for the film. It comes with a slip case, and to top things off it provides a booklet about the Bleach Universe and characters.

The film I give a 4 out of 5. It could have used some more action, but has some interesting new characters, and good story. I would have liked to see some interaction with some of the other characters like Chad, and Orhime though.

The DVD I give it a 3.5 out of 5. The video looks solid and the audio sounds great. The special features were fun to watch especially the behind the scenes feature, and the booklet if very informative. Some of the interviews and the trailers were pretty boring to watch however.

Dragon Ball Evolution DVD Review

16 08 2009

I hated the trailers, I hated the posters, I hated every picture that was in the internet that was related to this movie, and I hated the casting. Having said that; I liked this movie. Im a die hard Dragon Ball fan and I did watch the show frequently so I know about the story and the characters. From day one I disproved of this movie and could have sworn it was going to be a HUGE back alley prom baby mistake, but when I went to the movie theater to see it, I kept on waiting for those embarrassing scenes from the trailers to come up from the very beginning of the movie until the end, the anticipation building up because I know how horrible the reviews have been so I was very tense thinking “Okay so any minute now they’ll show a horrible embarrassing scene that will kill the movie” but that moment never came. And here I am, I bought the movie and watched it last week.

https://i0.wp.com/www.zr5.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/dragonball-evolution.jpg

From the beggining to the very end of the movie Goku was not “an emo cry baby brat” like some people said he would be, and he wasnt too simple, I think he played the character just fine. The stupid fighting that was shown in the trailers didnt look that bad for some reason in the big screen and the fact that Lord Piccolo was perfect throughout the whole thing added to that. There werent any “Oh my god this fight scene is epic!” moments, but there werent any “Bye, Ive had enough” moments that made me walk out, Im more lenient to say it was a good movie then a bad movie simply because it was based off a cartoon and it wasnt aimed at grown ups. Sure, some people dont like that excuse “Well, it was SUPPOSED to be like that” which is what people say about Speed Racer, but in my opinion (watch it yourself and you be the judge) it was a good movie.

https://i0.wp.com/www.devendo1981musicmovies.com/dragonball-evolution-movie-51.jpeg

NOW.

There were parts of this movie (See? Im getting there) that I didnt quite like. They werent bad, but it could have made the movie better if changed. Like water, it tastes like nothing so its not bad but if you add Cool Aid powder in it it tastes delicious. The movie could have used more fighting between Goku and Piccolo and it could have used less Bruce Lee rope fighting from the 60s…for this movie I think that the perfect fighting style would have been the one used in the last scene of the 3rd Matrix movie. Or in that sword fight between prince Nuada and Hellboy in Hellboy 2. Also this wasnt bad because its the same way it was in the cartoon, but it looked stupid in the big screen: Yamcha. Just Yamcha overall irritated me and made me want to punch a baby..the way he talked, moved, smiled…ugh!

https://i0.wp.com/static.tvguide.com/MediaBin/Galleries/Movies/A_F/Dq_Dz/Dragonball_Evolution/1/dragonball2.jpg

So all in all its a very fun film and I would recomend it to anyone. And I would give it a 72% C-

But dont take my word for it, watch it yourself.

P.S.
Yes, the sequels to this movie HAVE been green lit, in fact thay already have a script for DragonBall Z…so lets hope the next ones will do a bit better.

District 9 Review

15 08 2009

I advice watching this movie before reading my review.

As far as perfect movies go (The Dark Knight, UP, Watchmen, Return Of The King, The Godfather, Wall-E) this ones one of them, the newest addition to the list. The graphics where phenomenal despite the low budget and the gore was immensely satisfying . I love the raw, real, gritty, creepy vibe this movie had, especially in the scenes in which humans where harassing the aliens physically.

https://i0.wp.com/movieblog.ugo.com/cm/ugo/images/d-9-2.jpg

Like most Peter Jackson movies, this owned…but that is completely redundant. The relationship between the main alien (Chris) his son, and the human reporter was genius. Win. The action was spectacular, the gore, the mystery, the story…everything about it was ace. It was even really funny in some scenes, there where 2 scenes that where REALLY funny (imo) My favorite scene was when the main soldier gets pwnd. I stood up and clapped. Also the main alien’s son was extremely cute, you’ll see what I mean when you watch the movie.

https://i0.wp.com/assets.nydailynews.com/img/2009/08/14/alg_district_9.jpg

Now, remember in Spider-Man 2 when throughout the who.le movie you KNEW thre would be a huge fight at the end? The movie TOLD you “Dude, stick around, theres a sick fight t the end” or in the Punisher: War Zone, you KNEW (KNEW!) that at the end, the villain (Jigsaw) would get destroyed. Well this movie had that…but it ended in the middle without showing the amazing ending I was waiting for. Its like…remember in Lord of the Rings when Frodo says “Ill take the ring! Ill take it to Mordor…” Imagine if it would have ended on THAT scene. Well this movie pretty much did.

Oh and two things: How can the aliens and humans interact? How do they both know English AND alien language? And- if the aliens are so advanced…how come they seem so primitive?

https://i0.wp.com/www.scifiscoop.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/district_9_new_image-5.jpg

Although it had those 2 main flaws (my two questions) the unorthodox ending…I’ll gve this movie a 98% A+ because it just deserves it. It really does.

NOW! My question is: Will there be a sequel? If anyone in this website finds out, please post it, if any readers know, please send us a link. Thank you, and ENJOY IT!

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Review!

10 08 2009

Hiya, Jamie/James/Hazmat here, I JUST saw G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and heres my review.

I usually dont post a review if anyone in this site already did, Aaron already posted a review of GI Joe, but ill post same reviews from myself if i see that my review will be different then said previous review.

This movie was eactly what I hoped for, the fun and action was there, and the fighting scenes were majestic. Snake Eyes, oh, SNAKE EYES! He was SO amazing. I especially loved the fact that they showed him and Storm Shadow as kids.

People sem to be bothered by the climax of the story: the Baroess’ story unfolds in an unexpected way- and I liked it. It wasnt from ignorance from the part of the director of GI Joe, it was so that they could make it somewhat interesting for the die-hard GI Joe fans. What I didnt like is Storm Shadow’s death, I believe that if there will be a sequel (which according to the ending of the movie and an earlier post from us, it will) they MUST include Storm Shadow, who will fight Snake Eyes?

I don’t see why they needed to make Ripcord black though, I really dont, Im not racist, i just dont see why they couldnt make him like in the comics or show. No big deal, just an observation. I love how thy brought in the Destro masks into the story and how they made Cobra Cmander, amazing. Ive been waiting for YEARS for this day and this movie did not let me down, it wasnt the greatest movie, it had some cheesy parts, obvious CGI, and dumb parts, but they weren’t TRYING to win the Oscars, its a fucking G.I. Joe movie.

So, all things considered, ill give G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra was- n my opinion a solid 88% B+

I strongly recomend it , YO JOE! =]

The Collector Review

4 08 2009

SCORE: 3/10

This thing has an awesome premise. The trailer was awesome too. A guy who needs money breaks into his boss’s home, only to find out that somebody with worse plans is already inside. That’s awesome. But this thing had a major problem. It was basically Saw, with a little different taste to it. The traps, I got to admit, were very smart…but so were the traps in Saw. Why am I bringing up Saw? Well, it’s from the writers of the last few Saw films. Yeah…not a good thing to have attached to your name.

Now here. It was very tense. When it FINALLY kicked in. It spent a lot of time getting “ready”. Come on! All we want is to see some blood and horror. I hate slow build ups in horror-I hate those. Also-it wasn’t really that scary. If it wasn’t for the gore it’d be more of a thriller. This was gore for the sake of gore. Seriously. Yeah they needed it in some parts but not all that. It was some what predictable. They did do a good job of keeping it tense.

Overall, a film I was looking forward to really fails. I was gonna give it a 3.5 or a 4, but with all these problems? No. I was entertained by that cat and mouse game..but rarely was I ever scared. If a horror movie doesn’t scare you-it sucks. I was bored and very disappointed. I’m gonna have a Ben Lyons moment here- I think you should skip The Collector.

Aaron’s G.I. Joe Review

9 08 2009

https://i0.wp.com/www.fancast.com/blogs/files/2009/01/gijoe_storm_shadow.jpg SCORE: 6/10

Let me start off by saying this: G.I. Joe is NOT the train wreck I was expecting. I was wrong, it’s not horrible, it’s not great. The best way to put it? It’s a fun disaster.

The action was awesome in some parts. that accelerator suit scene was actually pretty fun and intense. Even though a little cheesy..come on, it was enjoyable at least. It was thrilling, and…in a certain flashback action scene…AWESOME. Don’t except anything great though, but man I enjoyed the crap out of some of the stuff in here. Some of the characters were awesomely done. So again, yes, I was wrong in my prediction. It’s not at all the caliber of suck I was excepting. I just praised the crap out of it…well, here comes the awful part.

Why the flip would you waste General Hawk’s character like that??? Beats me. The villain’s final reveal was completely STUPID. STUPID! The flashbacks for the most part sucked and didn’t even need to be there. What they eventually did with Baroness? I saw it coming from a MILE away. Around the 90 minute mark the film almost loses all sense of logic and realism. And fun. I didn’t like where they were going and let’s face it…that climax was too fake. It was. The dialogue was pretty bad. I know dialogue isn’t the main focus here, but come on…at least give me some good dialogue. I was LOVING it in the beginning, it was good in the middle, and the end it just about completely blew it. The climax was crazy. Sort of ballsy, and you have to admire them for trying that. I mean I’ll admit that climax was cool and watchable…but I was ready to write a “G.I. Joe was amazing” article and well the climax blew it. Also, at 1 Hr. 58 minutes it seemed to DRAG. It’s, for the most part, not that action packed. Don’t get me wrong, the climax isn’t “wow that was awful” it’s fun but..end it a better way please. Oh yes, the ending! Please end it a different way. The only character’s by the way who I cared about at all were Duke and ripcord.

So, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra has many many many problems. A climax I sort of enjoyed but, you know, it’s just almost TOO crazy. They proved me wrong. I just about LOVED this thing had they had a better ending. Even with all these problems, it’s a really fun film. Really fun. It honestly deserves a 5.5 but it was entertaining, so i’ll cut it SOME slack.

By the way, this is the big surprise of the summer. Who knew?

Bruno Review

2 08 2009

SCORE: 6.5/10

Bruno sounds like a genius idea right? Sacha, the man from the hilarious Borat, running around as a gay Austrian causing trouble. Genius right? Uhh…not really. Bruno goes like this: Hilarious moments but drowned by moments that only draw a small chuckle. Bruno has about only four hilarious scenes. The problem with this film is, it’s drawn out and doesn’t seem to have a rythem like Borat did. That’s the difference between the two. Borat was consistenly hilarious. Bruno, was not. I was disappointed to be honest. Bruno is a jerk. Borat is an innocent man which every hilarious thing happens to him. We care about Borat. We DON’T care about Bruno.

The first 15 minutes or so were not funny. Not even one laugh, until about 20 minutes in…and the film, the actual film, is about 75 minutes. Shortest movie I’ve seen in some time.

Overall, Bruno does have it’s moments. But it’s not as funny as Borat. It’s not that Bruno didn’t work, it did, but not a lot. Bruno is like a comedian who has some funny jokes but overall kind of fails. Look, i liked this, it was mildly good. It’s just a tad bit better than just “ok.”

“Watchmen:Director’s Cut” Blu-Ray Review

2 08 2009

Picture of my copyPicture of my copy

Short version: The Director’s Cut adds over 24 minutes of new footage that just adds the even more greatness to an already great film. The Film

“A Comedian died last night, and nobody cares. Nobody cares but me”

This isn’t your typical superhero film, in fact its more of a mystery film with superheroes thrown in. This film was once considered to be un-filmable, yet Zack Snyder was able to create a legendary adaptation of the Hugo Award winning graphic novel. The majority of the film is basicly an exact translation of the novel with some changes to the endidng. While the film was legendary its not without its flaws, there were over 24 minutes of added footage bringing the running time to 186 minutes total. I’m not a die hard fan of the novel in fact I’ve never heard of it til the movie was released in theatres, but I can tell these new scene only improve an already great film. The most notable of these scenes will be the “Death of Hollie Mason”, which was just a scene that done beautifully. This cut of “Watchmen” is a nice improvement over the theatrical cut.

The Blu-Ray Review

Audio/video: The audio on the disc is amazing and sounds great on a 5.1 surround sound system. The video quality is also amazing and can get the most out of a 1080p TV(which I unfortunately don’t have).

Maximum Movie Mode: There is an exclusive just for Blu-Ray copy. Its where Zack Snyder(director) stands between two screens: on one screen you see the finished film and on the other you see storyboards with unfinished FX. With the film being long its only obvious that this feature is long, but worth the sitting through. I would really like to see future releases of other WB(namely TDK) done in this same fashion.

The Phenomenon: The comic That Changed Comics-Discusses the impact that on comics and are given some excellent analysis on the comic.

Real Super Heroes, Real Vigilantes- Explores how the characters are mirrored in history and real life behavior.

Mechanics: Technologies of a Fantastic World- Real life professor of physics, Dr. James Kakalios, gives a realistic senerio on how the world of Watchmen is able to exist in our world today.

The disc also offers up all 11 Watchmen video journals, a music video by My Chemical Romance for “Desolation Row”, Digital Copy of the film, and to top things off it comes with a slip case with a neat hologram.

So was the director’s cut worth the wait? FUCK YEAH. I only hope WB offers up more from there other films out there.

I give the film a 4.5 out of 5, with running time of 186 minutes I just had to drop it half a point.

The Blu-Ray release I give it a 5 out of 5 with some fantastic extras any die hard fan or any movie lover is sure to love this release.

DVD Review: True Lies

Short Version: Fun action film.
THE GOOD
1.The action is great, which shouldn’t be a suprise considering its Schwarzenegger film.
2.Arnold can’t act IMO, but he was good as a spy and when he got into the jet he was even more badass.
3.Jaime Lee Curtis was great, and hey who could forget the scene where she strips?
4.Tom Arnold was hilarious in his scenes, and him and Arnold were great together.
5.Art Malik was awesome as the villian, and he had the best death for a villian in this film…where he lands on a rocket and Tasker fires him into a helicopter…..priceless.

THE BAD
1.I didn’t like the score to the film, and it didn’t seem to fit well w/ the action.
2.I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Arnold CANNOT ACT.
3.The film gets fairly long, especially in the middle of the film.
4.I got bored w/ the whole “I’m gonna forget about terrorists and follow my wife” bit….I know the point of that scene and that it leads to his wife finding out his identity, but it just didn’t work for me.
OVERALL
I give the film a 3.5 out of 5. Its a fun film w/ some great action, yet it gets boring in the middle of the film.”

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Review

Now before I review this, I must admit that I not only read the books, but am the biggest Harry Poter fan ever (GO HUFFLEPUFF!) and Ive been looking forward to this movie for…ever. And I know that the movie should stand alone and not be like the book, but theres never an excuse to fuck up a movie if the book was a masterpiece, if the book ruled and the movie sucked, obviously the crew of the movie fucked up, big time.

But. I am cursed. Cursed with knowledge, I happene to have read the book, and the book was AMAZING, it was PERFECT, it was the 2nd best book ive ever read, Deathly Hollows being number one. But this movie was so horribly done that it almost made me puke. I almost left the theater from pure frustration, i knew that if i stayed, i would have thrown the wall at the screen. The book had so many fight scenes, so many important key parts to it, so much torture, gore, love between the characters, such amazing plot, awesome Quidditch, sad sad sad parts, but the movie failed to translate this so poorly it pissed me off completely.

The character of Malfoy and Hermione where the only two that i liked, the rest where not only wasted, but basterdized, pissed on, even. I cant believe that they nailed the teenager romance, but they missed the key important things, like the fact that Voldemort is BUILDING AN ARMY, and KILLING PEOPLE, and thr dementors are guarding Hogwarts, and Olivander got killed, and the Minister of Magic is visiting Muggle world leaders…theres too much stuff to name…oh….oh….and. And. They missed Dumbledores funeral. That, was an epic fail. You cannot miss the most emotional part of all the Harry Potter books. Just, wow. And, why did Voldemort make no appearances in this movie?

When Luna Lovegood has more screentime and lines then Voldemort, on the one book thats ALL about Voldemorts future, past and present, you KNOW you fucked up.

Im going to plain and simple give this movie a 20% F-

And im being generous, I only gave it 20 because of one Quidditch scene and a little of good acting by Malfoy and Hermione

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Review

31 07 2009

Im sorry, i know this is late, but this is a new website and we just started posting stuff, theres been lots of news going on and I now finally have time to write this review, and, I know the movie came out weeks ago, this isnt one of those websites that writes the reviews weeks after, im seriously going to try my best to watch movies on opening days or watch screenings to post reviews as early as possible. But for G’I Joe ill be away so that will also wait a couple of days. After that little vacation i should be all good though lol.

Now, this movie has been getting HORRID reviews from websites and movie blogs, just TERRIBLE. I saw it on opening day and i think it ruled immensly, i loved every minute of it (almost every minute, ill get to that) the visual effects where splendid and the epic feel to it kicked off from the beggining and never left, as a movie thats longer then two hours, it does a great job of keeping the audience awake, and thats an understatement.

Since this movie is based off of the show and the comic books, it kinda made sence why some parts where goofy, like Sams parents, or the Twins, or the college scenes, the show was also goofy, this was based on the show, how did you not see that coming? I only point this out because too many people are taking this movie WAY too seriously calling the Twins racist or saying that Sam is a prick for wanting Buymblebee to have a normal Autobot life.

This movie should absolutely get the oscar for best effects this year, it was already robbed from a movie i never even saw (the golden compass? Apperantly the talking polar bears where the shit) but the transformations where nothing less then artistic. They followed the story from the comic books and the show, they involved the Matrix of Leadership, the Fallen, and the Primes, which was extremely cool, and the action was litterally non-stop. Remember the scene in the trailers in which the huge wheel (Wreckage) rips throuigh a bridge and Prime jumps on him? Yeah. Thats the first scene.

This movie was fantastic and it sure did live up to the hype, in my opinion, and it was slightly better then the first, only because it was longer and had more action, and the epicness factor was impressive. The silly college scenes where irrelevant, i didnt even think twice about that or the Twins (Skids and Mudflap) I was too busy observing thefighting robots.

By the way, theres a scene in which the former Decepticon and current Autobot JetFire explains the tale of the Fallen and the seven Primes and how its relevant to the Matrix of Leadership…the way he tells it falls off the chart of epicness, that scene almost made me cry of excitment, I love JetFire, hes so awesome.

So to rate this movie id deffinatedly give it an 88% B+

I just cant give it an A because theres been way better movies that deserved As, and This one wasnt one of them.

  1. yo i think that transformers movies was pretty bad. In my opinion it lacked the human characteristic that the first one held. In this one there was fucking robots left and right, up and down.there were fucking toster robots and vacume robots. i mean seriously, what the hell is that. In the first one there was like 5 good robots and like idk 3 bad ones. In this one there was like 10 to 15 robots all together from what i saw. I mean i loved the fact that they had megan fox in it.almost came by just looking at her<33 but anyways the first movie had wayyy more human interactions then this one.

  2. Yes, this movie was considered shallower, as in the story wasnt as deep as the first one, the characters where barely introduced.

But you see, when i saw it, I knew the names of every single robot on screen…the big robot that sucked sand, i can name all of the robots that make up that guy (Devastator) and i can name about 99% of all the robots, so there was no confusion for me, but everyone else that HAS a life, didnt know wtf was going on, so unlike the first movie, that introduced the robots because there where only 5 or 7 like you mewntioned, this one just had about 200 robots and it was hard to keep up…..unless youre like…an ultra nerd who already knows the story. Like me. lol.

You like Megan Fox, have you seen the “Jennifers body” movie preview/trailer ? Shes like having sex while eating this kid alive (shes a demon who prays on horny teenagers in the movie)

If you want i can post it for you.

And on the upcoming Jonah Hex movie shes naked in one scene.

Now, lets talk about Chris Evans in Push or fantastic 4, whooo babyyy!

  5. Robby ill post it now.

Megan, I dont liek Megan Fox, the only actress i like is Gwyneth Kate Paltrow, because shes classy, good looking and really smart…and the 2nd best actress alive. And I dont wanna judge Megan Fox but…she cannot act if her life depended on it.

And Chris Evans is cool i guess haha
